Cant tell if it's my earliest memory or if I'm just subconsciously trying to remember any of the oldest things on the telly but I watched the Moomins as a kid.

I do however vividly remember sunday nights with Londons Burning followed by Hale and Pace and Simon Drake & the Secret Cabaret on old school Channel 4

I also like "The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe" (showing my age here!). It was a French black and white series, dubbed in English, with awesome backing music. It was first shown in the UK in 1965, but repeated every few years during the summer holidays up until the early '80s.

I read Biddy Baxters book (she was the editor of Blue Peter and the first female childrens TV producer/editor in the UK) and she explained how we got to have eastern European kids programmes on our telly then. Basically, someone got promoted at the BBC who HATED childrens TV with a venegence, slashed the budget in half and that's all they could afford for about 3 years until this person (don't know who they were) got moved somewhere else in the Beeb! Basically, they didn't have the money to make their own programmes.

Monty Python did a great spoof on a primitive remote control. Was a guy who was wired up to a remote control. Whenever the buttons on the remote were pressed, it sent a nasty electric shock through him until he got up and changed the channel!

Sure was - in the 50s, the schedule for the programmes was:

MONDAY: Picture Book

TUESDAY: Andy Pandy

WEDNESDAY: Bill & Ben

THURSDAY: Rag, Tag & Bobtail

FRIDAY: The Woodentops

During the '60s, Picture Book and Rag Tag disappeared from the screens, to be replaced with things like Pogles Wood, Mary, Mungo and Midge, The Herbs, Trumpton, Camberwick Green etc.

"

mr Ben

hector's house "

Mr Benn - loved the way he used to walk into the costume shop and enter a world of fantasy! "I've just found a dildo in the pocket of this coat" said Mr Benn. "Oh - you can keep it...as a souvenir" said the shop owner!

Hector's House - the voice of Zaza the Cat was long rumoured to have been Joanna Lumley, but this has recently been proved untrue - I didn't even know about the rumour!

"bill and ben, andy pandy ,were these watch with mother?

Sure was - in the 50s, the schedule for the programmes was:

MONDAY: Picture Book

TUESDAY: Andy Pandy

WEDNESDAY: Bill & Ben

THURSDAY: Rag, Tag & Bobtail

FRIDAY: The Woodentops

During the '60s, Picture Book and Rag Tag disappeared from the screens, to be replaced with things like Pogles Wood, Mary, Mungo and Midge, The Herbs, Trumpton, Camberwick Green etc."

i think wednesdays and fridays must have been my favourites. many thanks.

Gawd, I remember sobbing at all the lassie films but the thing I remember vividly is a report on the Vietnam war and seeing a man get calmly shot. He fell to the ground with an arc of blood from his head whilst those around him didn't react at all. That was probably the first violent thing I had ever seen.
