I can't get my head round this.. People will respond to serious posts and give advice. That's great. But then the same people are taking posts about "Strictly Come Dancing" and other assorted tripe like "X Factor" seriously? Can you really trust an X Factor fan to give advice? Average probablty about 17 at most.

Don't be such a snob. X Factor is just easy, switch-off-the-brain entertainment. It's no worse than watching football or soaps or reading glossy magazines.

You spend all your time reading Tolstoy and discussing Middle Eastern politics, I take it?

No, you're alright. There are some of us watching Strictly and then switching over to X Factor. We're really terrible and should never dare to enter an advice thread or a serious thread.

You're only slightly flawed.

I am not sure why people keep trying to ridicule / put down others for what they watch on telly, which newspaper they read etc etc.

I think it says more about those people than the people who like to enjoy what they enjoy

It really was NOT a dig at YOU.

If people make judgements about me on one aspect of me they will almost certainly be disproved when looking at other aspects of me. I think that's probably true of most of us.

I watch foreign language arts films, go to the opera, to the theatre, like history and politics and economics and listen to R4. But I also like Strictly and the audition stage of X Factor and sci fi and some American sitcoms.

I don't watch the programmes in question but those who do I guess are perfectly capable of being 'serious' in their life outside of fab and their opinions on more weighty matters as well as posting on matters such as x factor etc..
