I got an email the other day about The Great Vegan Challenge, happening through November. I've considered trying it before but always chickened out. This time I would like to do it as a bit of an experiment because I suffer from eczema etc which I've been told dairy can cause to flare up.
I stopped eating meat around 15 years ago and then stopped eating fish/seafood 5 years ago.
So really, I was just wondering if anyone here is, or has been, vegan?
Is it easy? Is it expensive (bearing in mind I might be tempted a fair few times by vegan cheese!)?
Ta muchly! |

I've been vegan since I was 18.
My birthday actually happens to be November 1st - World Vegan Day!
I'd say go for it and wish you the very best of luck. It's much easier these days than people generally assume.
Feel free to PM me for any advice on typical pitfalls or recipe ideas, etc. |

Thanks! I think I'll PM you and bombard you with questions!
I don't know how strict to be though, that's one of my problems |

Only be as strict as you wish to be. There's no point in choosing a lifestyle then beating yourself up for being a backslider. |

"We're vegan too. It's much easier than you think. How are you getting on with it? Kat x"
Not starting until November but I'm already thinking of things I can eat and changes I can make |

ive been a veggie since I was 14, I did try being vegan for a while but the food is so naff I only managed it for about a year, soya milk, yogurts etc are just nasty and if you don't eat the alternatives you are very limited to what you can eat as most vegetarian food is not suitable for vegan's, by the time you take out all the ready meals, burgers etc with egg or milk in them it leave your bugger all to eat |

I would stock up on lots of spices from oriental shops to have in your cupboard to add to curries, soups and stews to liven them up as the food can be quite bland. Used to live with an Indian guy and the food he could rustle up from basic vegetables just by adding spices was truly extrodinary and an absolute joy to eat ..all the best ! |

Been a vegetarian for about 25 years and a vegan for 2 and half. And my stamina and flexability has really, really improved. Go for it. Don't let your stomach become a graveyard for dead animals. |
