Following on from the rapidly heading for 175 posts 'mandatory face pics' thread, is there anything swingers can, or should, do to improve the public's perception of us?
Do we just keep our heads down and get on with it or try to convince people that, whilst we're undoubtedly perverts, we're harmless? |

If people actually knew how very little time others actually spent thinking about them as opposed to assuming they do it all the time, then we probably wouldn't spend time worrying about it. |

The way the general public defines it. |

Generally, society look down on anyone who is sexually promiscuous, not just swingers. Even when someone has a bit of fun at an office party it's hot gossip and used to slate them until the next indiscretion so to get the general public to accept that some people simply enjoy recreational sex would be a serious uphill battle. |

I don't hide who I am it what I do, I don't share explicit details but my friends know i'm a swinger and everyone that i've mentioned it too is just curious about it. Once i've explained what I get from it all of them understand and accept it. |

Flippin eck Onny! 'Undoubtedly perverts'????? That's a bit sweeping even for you!! I may have - and hope to continue to have - recreational sex with rather more people than may be the national average, but a pervert that does not make one!!!! The definition I have found for 'perverted' is 'Characterized by sexually abnormal and unacceptable practices or tendencies' and ' Having been corrupted or distorted from its original course, meaning, or state'.
I don't go in for anything 'abnormal' or 'unacceptable' (well..... maybe the latter lol!) and I have certainly NOT been corrupted. No one deliberately set out to lure me into Swinging - I jumped in more than willingly...
Maybe if we started viewing ourselves as being 'normal' it might be a start in changing the pubic (heavily influenced by The Sun!) attitude...

Resentment and jealousy and insecurity.
They dont have the moxxy to do it themselves and deride those that do because they are jealous we are getting all the fun and are secure enough in ourselves to enjoy it |

Without a doubt and it's often jealousy talking...but doesn't change the way it feels when people are whispering behind your back, as I had in a previous job when my profile was spotted by a colleague. The fact he was on here looking for sex was a non issue (possibly because he is male), but I have been told of plenty of things being said about me. Not by everyone admittedly, but a manager had to 'have words' with a few. |

Probably.
But then there are all sorts of pockets of people in life..unless your in said pocket, seldom will those outside of said pocket understand what's in said pocket.
So fuxk those ones. |

Im a member of the general public who has an interest in the swinging scene. Im not a pervert and I don't need to justify my private activities to anyone on this planet. I find your use of the word 'public' very odd. We are swingers not members of some elite exclusive club for certain people only. |

"Public" is a word far too often bandied about.Like the "great British public" means sod all really.Who exactly is this "public" anyway?

"When was the last time you read about swingers in the media in order for the public to have a point of view on swinging? I can't remember."
When they were planning to open a Swinger's club in Atherton and there were petitions raised and a 'protest' outside the proposed club. Apparently people were concerned there would be more sex related crimes nearby and that people would be shagging all over the place outside the club. If you google it and read the Bolton Evening News report and some of the comments it'll show you what people think of us 'undesirables'! |
