this...

its more down to lazy parenting, or not knowing what to do, than the internet.

most providers here already offer parental controls and blocking software. I find most parents are just to lazy to learn how to use it.

Lazy parenting is getting on my tits lately (before the lynch mob gets here, I'm not talking about ALL parents)

Example, parents want schools to teach there children about domestic violence, why can't the parents do that?

They can block whatever they want. Kids will find a way around it whether its online or by robbing their friends parents dvd collection. Or even just getting off to scenes in everyday films. It comes back to having better sex education to begin with for me and teaching that sex in reality is not what you see in porn and not expect it to be.

"and is porn really that bad for a teenager to watch????"

Yes. Yes it is, because without proper context and understanding there are too many activities depicted in porn which they think are the norm.

Does anyone really want the next generation to think that Ass-To-Mouth and throat-gagging are the norm?

How do you balance allowing them to watch porn against having an age of consent which forbids them to have sex?

Parents should teach there kids about sex as well as school

But your right, theres always a way to find porn without the internet, as kids it was never difficult to get a hold of some nudity

Yeah it is. There's far worse things online than porn.

And like someone's already said, kids will get a way around it. JonDo is already used to circumvent the blocks on torrent sites, so this'll probably get round the filth block.

so what do you want the gov to block next, it wont make any differance kids are way to savy to let a block get in the way, all it does is make life more awkward for those that want to watch porn, whats the betting that those that ask for porn to be unblocked end up on a list somewhere, and how would that be used? it smells of big brother to me

I don't have kids, why should I have to go out my way and call them up, even if it is only a 5 minute phone call, its a 5 minute phone call I shouldn't have to make. Let the parents call and put the block on

It's funny that most of those calling for tighter controls over access to on-line porn are the very same people who invariably end up either getting busted as pedophiles or choking themselves to death on an orange in some bizarre wanking accident.

Whenever I hear these people braying about morality I just think they're shouting just a little too loudly to be genuine - what is it, exactly, they're trying so hard to hide about themselves?

So its ok to accuse parents of being lazy but if you have to call your provider it just makes life awkward?

Yes, kids are savy enough to get round it....But what about all the young kids out their simply curious? Finding porn is easy...put one stumbling block in their way and that curiosity will wear off quickly!

There are kids out there that have parents who either dont give a toss or think their child wouldnt even consider looking at porn....

The block makes it harder for the child, the adult can get past with one simple phone call...

and by ringing your provider, they now have your details on computer that you have asked for it to be removed, so the police then have a nice easy list of people looking at porn, in your area, and can come accuse you if any shit happens.

let me ask, all those on here with kids, that MAY think its a good idea, when THIS site is blocked, cuz its over 18 content, you will have to ring and get access to it.

so what protections are you then going to use as you have just disabled the very thing you are advocating?

preventing young children from doing things is what parents are for.

the state have taken so many things from parents to be able to parent their children, starting with labours nanny state.

why dont we just take all kids off sll parents and just put them in huge dorms and let the state raise them how the state sees fit.?

that way parents wouldnt need to worry

Am I missing the point here? Isn't there software that you install on your pc/laptop so kids can't _iew porn?

Also, there's always babestation on tv if they can't access porn via the computer.

Even easier every operating system comes with the tools to block anything you want, by IP address or name or even part of a name.

Yes you are missing a few points as are others.

Not all parents are I.C.T / Internet / Porn savvy ......

Most of the arguments here assume all adults to have an level playing field. They don't.

I'd rather inconvenience those that want it than those that can't stop it.

First thing I'm a parent second all Internet devices in our house are password protected. We have our own very simply blocking software that came with the computer which our little one uses.

Now lets put some context in this argument it's not porn it blocks its adult content that's a very broad spectrum of things. I find it funny that some on here are in favour as this site would be blocked and you would have to remove it anyway so if you had children they could still do as they did before.

Children have always had access to porn I grew up with out the Internet but still got my grubby little mitts on it.

Some of the best/worst amateur hackers around the globe are teens.

As for those that go on about the parents that don't have the knowledge to use the filters that come with most modern devices That is lazy parenting takes about 30 mins to read the guide on how to block content.

This is a bad move

So, we have to opt in to _iew porn. Are all 'top shelf' mags going to be subscription only?

You can access plans for weapons, _iew all kinds of nasty facts about killings, animal and child cruelty but not sex? Will this stop wicked people abusing children? Don't think so.

'Children have always had access to porn' ?

Finding a magazine with some pics of naked women or couples engaged in sex doesn't come near what children could be exposed to via the net.

I'd rather I have to opt in to sites I want.

What context are you talking about ? What is adult content when it's not porn ?

I just had a thought. What about hentai and manga / amine. They can be pornographic but are classed as animations like cartoons? What about sites like omegle and tiny cha, yahoo messanger, where you can have you're own chat room and do whatever you want it in? I have seen vids from these sites of girls I would doubt were nowhere near 16. And no I didn't watch after I saw them. Banning adult material will be a lot harder than you think when its the kids who seems to be making some of it their self.

They will still be able to get their hands on dvd's and other forms of digital media the same as kids got hold of VHS porn in previous generations or the tv.

Adult content is anything that refers to things like tattoos, films, gambling, drugs and much much more

It can logistically be done. You cant impose a blanket ban or block, the subject covers items that are not related to porn but still sexual in nature. Unless you block each site url address specifically.

How would a block like the ones being talked about work. Keyword blocking will be the cheapest and simplest but what if i am looking for legitimate info on sexually transmitted diseases, that will be blocked has the word sex in it.

Its not as simple as it looks and it will never pass as law

Well depending how they sort out the filter system it could mean that educational material would be blocked as it would have a flagged word or phrase.

It's worth reading up on as the implications are pretty far reaching. To be honest most people will end up opting out when they keep finding yet another innocent web page blocked.

if they use keyword blocking then I can't really see any forum or website that allows user comments from escaping the ban. I'm sure that a lot of naughty people will be posting comments on sundry websites referring to Pen Island and Scunthorpe.

Actually the government has come up with something to enable them to block internet traffic to ANYTHING they want to have the power to restrict access to, and have dressed it up under the guise of 'protecting the children'.

What's unbelievable is that people fall for the cover story. Well, predictable rather than unbelievable.

I agree that up to a certain age, porn without the context of real life experiences would lead to the idea that certain acts and also certain fantasies played out in porn are the norm. This could get them off to a very bad start when they are finally ready to begin their sexuality in the flesh.

If there's a successful clamp down on easy access to porn it will probably have an effect on advertising revenues and that, in turn, could result in many 'free' sites not being free any more.

It looks like yet more non-porn things are going to get blocked in the UK as part of the indiscriminate filtering. VPNs are apparently now a target of filtering because they could possibly be used by children to get around age gates. Great, way to go and ruin it for the rest of us.
