Pretty much all of the below are invalid these days, but it doesnt stop specific ones being harmful-
Wrath
Greed
Sloth
Pride
Lust
Envy
Gluttony
If you could somehow actually stop people all over the world committing one of them, which would it be?

But what starts wars? Simply wrath? Or is it a matter of oppression because of greed and envy, capitalism in the third world etc? |

Greed for power, oil, money, that what starts it off.
It then creates someone else to be envious so then they start and so on and so on |

Everyone talks about the 7 deadly sins - probably because they have been popularised by art and Dante's 'Divine Comedy'.
For me, the Five poisons (Kleshas) of Buddhism (Mahayana tradition) are a more effective because they contain dvesha - anger / hatred - which was never in the 7 cardinal sins list of Christianity.
So for me (because I like to be different) its anger / hatred. Perhaps we should petition the Pope to have this added to the list??? |
