Funny that because in my time it was recommended that you 'have a quick drink' before your test. Made perfect sense, its relaxing, boosts confidence etc.

That was back in 1975-ish... bloody hell!!!

I have been driving for 20 years, passed after 3 lessons my third lesson being just before my test.

I have driven all sorts of cars over that time around various countries and been involved in 2 accidents, both where I have been hit from behind because the other driver had failed to see the traffic had stopped!!

I pride myself on being a good driver

I passed my first test, on a moped, in 1975. I only did it to get a day off school but then I could carry passengers and I learned that wheels vastly improve your sex life

1976 saw me take HGV 3 (in the Army) which got me a car licence followed by a motorcycle test in 1977 and HGV 1 a few years later.

So I've never actually taken a test in a car!

Question:

Who has been driving longer, the person who passed their test 10/20/30 years ago and only drives a couple of thousand miles a year to and from the shops or the person who passed their test a couple of years ago went on to take a HGV and now drives 9 hours a day 5 days a week covering 100,000 miles a year in their lorry and then more miles at the weekend in their own car/bike?

My mother passed her test in about 1938 in a huge American built ambulance in Aldershot barracks. The test was to drive round the parade ground without hitting anything or stalling the truck.

She never drove again after she left the forces in about 1951 yet she held a full driving licence till she died at almost 80.
