I go and see a fair number of shows and there are a lot of good comedians out there who for various reasons haven't, so far, hit it big.
One of my faves is Justin Moorhouse who posted this little gem on facebook today:
Personal Trainer - you are a fat mess
Me - every time you say that a part of me dies inside
Personal Trainer - shit it out then. It’ll help
Who else likes some of the underrated comedians? |

Bill Burr is pretty huge in the states but not here. Probably because he's so foul-mouthed. But he's one of the better, more truthful observational comics.
He's an abusive redhead with a thick Boston accent and can have a room full of thousands of black people screaming laughter talking about racism (from both perspectives).
Go to youtube and look up Bill Burr Philadelphia. He was part of one of the biggest stand up comedy touring festivals around when the city of Philadelphia booed and heckled everybody all day all night regardless of what jokes they told.
Bill went on and spent half an hour screaming abuse at the audience from the outset and by the time he stormed off, everybody was cheering and applauding him.
Starred in a few films and shows now too like Breaking Bad and Stand Up Guys, so keep an eye out for him. |

Bill Burr is good! I'm enjoying listening to him at the mo now that you've tipped me off
White guilt and swimming LOL
Some comedians are unknown, not because they are bad, but just haven't hit the big time yet. |

"Underrated comedians are usually underrated for a reason."
So wrong a lot the time a comedians best work is when they are starting out and their material is raw before if gets commercialized for the main stream
Doug Stanhope - again known in the US but not really here |

there are a few i like... justin moorhouse is a good example...
I don't know if you can call andrew maxwell under-rated....
i do like Andy Zaltzman and John Oliver and have seen them do "political animal" together which is fantastic... but with "the bugle" being one of the top rated podcasts.. Zaltzmans persona blooming here, and john oliver blowing up in the us after doing standing in doing the "daily show" gig.... they are not really under rated anymore.... |

There a great deal of comics about at the Mo due to its surge in popularity, but like everything your face has to fit the bill. If you're not from either London or the north west you are running into a brick wall. Other than frank Skinner and Sarah mill I can name me another Midlands and north east comedian? They are about but not "TV" friendly. |

Oh Bill is huge over there now but he refuses to have any politically correct reservations so he'd cause trouble here lol check out his Monday Morning Podcasts on Soundcloud.
They're always a day or two late because he can't be arsed, but how he stays original for an hour every week is just gold. But saying that, he gets extreme when he doesn't have an immediate audience.
The one where he was talking about the fat kid on telly who slapped his mother in the face, he went psychotic talking about how his own mother would beat him with a spiky brush just for talking in the wrong tone. It got sadistic. |

There are some good regional ones, such as Ross Noble who is arguably international now.
Alun Cochrane is a chap from outside the South East who is damn funny, but not that famous. |
