Exercise absolutely works because the pain is caused by cramps. By moving the muscle you are reducing the cramps. It's often the last thing you actually want to do but it works...
get some proper period painkillers too.. |

hot water bottles, ibuprofen and buscupan work for me. I can't exercise, but when I could, it did help.
Buscupan is used for tummy cramps for IBS, but discovered it works for period pains too. You can now buy it over the counter at an chemist x |

Aww, Em I feel for you. Ive suffered with horendous periods on and off. My GP prescribed mefanamic acid for me which is a strong, non drowsy painkiller. I also opted for the Mirena coil, im on my second one now (they last 5 years) and i had hardly any periods with the first one and then this second one is taking a little to settle now.
Anyway, what ive found hellpful is to cut out refined carbs during my period (pasta, bread etc) and I take a bit of a vitamin/herbal cocktail of evening primrose, cod liver oil capsules, black cohosh tablets and dong quai.
I also do cat stretches throughout the day and if im feeling horny a bit of self love often helps as that contracts the uterus. I also found that using beppy sponges (wet type) tampons instead of normal tampons which are bleached helps too. you can get them online. You can also have sex with them in
Hope some of this helps. Obviously you would need to research if the herbal remedies are suitable for you individually.

If you have a good herbal shop near you or a Neals Yard store, you need Yarrow.
Make an infusion with hot water, drink.like herbal tea, small cup 2 to 3 times a day.
Its a herb that is astringent and really helps!!! |

Everyone is different but nothing works as well as sex for me...
When it gets REALLY bad and I feel like I've been disemboweled, I've found that sex pretty much eradicates the pain and discomfort for a good few hours.
However, I don't get the same result with toys?

400mg ibuprofen every 8 hours and 1g paracetamol also every 8 hours. Alternate them with a gap of 4 hours between them so that you take a tablet every 4 hours.
Eg 12.00 ibuprofen
16.00 paracetamol
20.00 ibuprofen
00.00 paracetamol |

I suffered with period pain for years until my doctor recommended the coil. Having the merina coil was the best thing l ever did - no period pains, no mood swings, no periods nothing!
Pain free, free and lasts 5 years |
