Sorry I know it's not Thursday....
Our eldest son's school was in line for a £23 million rebuild. After spending hundreds of thousands in planning they have decided to shut the school. Ofsted reported the school is good with outstanding features. After consultation using very questionable data it has been decided there are not enough children being born or moving into the area to justify the school. The data the council has used states that fully occupied new housing estates have not been started and they have found that no one in the area is going to have more children and no one moving into the area is going to bring children or have children. So now there are about 60 places for 700+ children or we can send our children o uh t of the area to schools that have got special measures in place as they are so poor. The decision is not financial apparently. What appears to have happend is that someone in the county council education department has made an almighty fuck up and they need land urgently for a special needs school. So instead of dealing with the person they have decided to close a very good secondry school. Hopefully our local MP will demand an enquiry as she says the facts she was given support the school and the report the county council published did support it. Sounds like corruption to us....

That doesn't make sense. The demand on primary school places in the SE is very high and one thing that follows is that they tend to move on to secondary school.
Your area may be one of those rare pockets with no growth in primary places but people travel further for secondary schools.

Yes it does start with a D...
Apparently the C/council applied for a grant for a special needs school then realised that they needef to own the land the school is to be built on before applying. So looks like the decision has been made to cover up someones cock up. The so called independent councillor who made the decision stated that the facts don't add up but as he had asked for clarification and not got it he had based his decision on on the figures he had been given. People from out of the catchment travel a long way to the school. Now we are expected to travel a long way to a failing school. All the surrounding councils have said they are over subscribed and can not cope with the school closing... The school was offered the rebuild or to change to an academy, and were advised by the local council to go for the rebuild... |
