If you don't like football pass this one by.
So who has been see outside your club and who are you going to sign?
Where is Peter Odemwingie going to end up |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
Who gets the money? I don't understand the football transfer thing fully. Does the club buying pay the player the £85m or the club they are leaving.
Why is football recession proof? It's silly money being bandied about. |

It's like buying a car the seller receives the money from the buyer. Sometimes payment is made in full or spread over a period of time in installments.
The player will also get some of the money as well.
Football is struggling but the clubs in the Premier league are fine. Some lower league clubs have folded or are in administration. |

So the buyer then has to pay for petrol and other running costs on their new car in the form of salary to the player? And they get a lot too. Expensive business this kicking a ball around. |

It's more like leasing.
The club pays 10/20/30 or more million then has to pay the running costs for 4/5/6 years depending on the contract.
At the end of the contract the property (the player in this case) reverts back to the owner (who is also the player) so like leasing a car you get nowt at the end. The only ways around this are to either find another equally stupid club who will pay 10/20/30 or more million to take it off your hands, or extend the contract (which also usually involves increasing the running costs)for an extra few years. Needless to say if while you are paying the running costs the engine blows up or the gearbox seizes you are pretty much bolloxed. Whichever way it goes there will always be one club the finishes up with nothing.
And they call football a business |

Don't forget the agent's part in the transfer business.
It's in their interest to ramp up transfer prices and wages as they get a fee and percentage of whatever they can negotiate on behalf of their client.
The Odemwingie situation was one of the more bizarre episodes but provided a bit of excitement for the media pundits last time round.
For Brighton... we would be happy to keep our current players as there has been bids in for at least three. If we sign a striker it would be a bonus but would expect it to be when the loan window opens. |

It's a bit like a cross between voluntary taxation and modern day slavery. |

Harry redknapp is parked up in McDonald's drive through on bath road giving interviews and signing autographs from the drivers window until midnight tonight |

agree with the taxation, yes, but using the word slavery is a little distasteful.
really dont remember actual slaves being paid millions a year to be working in the fields or whatever.
i found it disgusting when ronaldo used the term when he wanted to leave united, and it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
however, maybe in the lower leagues, but again, players seem to be able to move easier in the lower tables than th top leagues, but thats probably due to there being a lot less money involved. |

Not many slaves get a signing on fee, fixed contract and a loyalty bonus for staying the duration and not asking to move. They are also free to move on at the end of the contract |

"People being bought and sold sounds like slavery to me."
in its simplest form yes its slavery, but the term slave is not one to be used for people earning a very very good wage, doing something they love, and, as has been said, getting the freedom to move on at the end of the term, or indeed if a better offer comes in at any point.
if it were comparable, then i would be the first to accept that all those black activists throughout history just had a chip on their shoulders and, in fact, had bugger all to moan about (and i know which side of the fence i sit on that issue) |

"People being bought and sold sounds like slavery to me.
With the option of not being forced to work slightly changes the context"
So if a professional footballer decides he doesn't want to play he just gets to sit on the bench and collect his wages/ company car etc? |

I watched a program on gladiators last night.
50% of gladiators were not slaves but signed a contract for a set time.
They then used the money to pay off debts or change their social class.
Quite similar to sports nowadays, without the arm chopping off death thing. |

the 2 other "big" transfers are rooney to chelsea and suarez to arsenal, will they happen??
not sure myself, i think both clubs will make improved offers but i think they will be rejected, but you never know. If £85m is the going rate at £300k a week, i may even route out my old leather boots |

your pretty negative about the game of football
think of the joy it brings to millions"
I'm pretty negative about the adverse impact £silly has had on most sport. |

As an example AFAIK Yohan Cabaye is still getting paid |

and he played the weekend.
whether that be his final appearance for the Toon is a different matter.
i know the Odemwhinger is getting paid AND not playing, so hardly a slave, sitting at home, collecting his 25k a week, scratching is moronic nuts all day long. |

I think I asked this last year but I can't remember. Are these transfer people still playing with their current team mates, training etc. and then as of midnight play with the new lot with games on Saturday?
Why can't they sort out the moving around before they start playing again in their off-season? Doesn't it all happen again in January? |

It's a worldwide deadline, some leagues haven't started yet. |

"So is it all over now?"
The dealing maybe but now the fun really starts, see if the clubs end up with the quality they thought they were buying. Whilst there are many successes there have been some spectacular failures. Time will tell. |

Do they all change kits now? Do we get a moment of nakedness as they run between the different teams ready to play for their former arch enemies on Saturday? |

Football is about competitive sport not sexualiseing the individual unnecessarily. |

"Man U paid £27m for Fellani
several over the release clause..
bit of a panic by Moyes..?"
I think he was a back up option when other targeys failed. He was avaliable for £24m 2 weeks ago does seem odd to pay more today. |

Complete contrast to last August deadline day when 4 players signed. This year nobody but we held onto 4 players that were targeted by other clubs.
Now just need some quality including a striker when the loan window opens. |

Very pleased with Fellaini signing, although some of Uniteds dealings have been shambolic.
Fellaini was always a top target but think Utd knew he was desperate to come so let the release clause expire thinking we'd get him cheaper - oh dear!
As for bidding for another 6 players and failing miserably... then the fiasco with the 2 Spanish players Herrera and Coentrao...I despair!!
