Like it or hate it we cant live without it !! Yes music !!

Without what or who would we be ??? It can change our feelings in a second, make us feel good or help us overcome difficult times !

It is truly amazing the power of music and we should celebrate it, embrace it and be thankful we have it, without it we would be dull, unemotional automatons with no desire , empathy or passion

So i say thnk you to the music for giving life to me

Although I enjoy listening to music and going to musicals I wouldn't say it's a significant part if my life or that it has shaped me or my emotional development in any way.

If I like a song I'll sing along and maybe boogie but I don't have favourite songs or bands that I have to listen to at poignant times etc.

So at not point in your entire life have you ever been in a good mood and turned a song up cos you feel good or equally when your having a bad time put something melancholy on to match your mood ???

Quote from “Lives of a Cell” in relation to humanity making first contact with life on other worlds

“Perhaps the safest thing to do at the outset, if technology permits, is to send music. This language may be the best we have for explaining what we are like to others in space, with least ambiguity.”

“I would vote for Bach, all of Bach, streamed out into space, over and over again. We would be bragging, of course, but it is surely excusable for us to put the best possible face on at the beginning of such an acquaintance. We can tell the harder truths later”

If I like a sing that is playing I will turn it up and belt it out but if I'm feeling low I don't rush to put on a sad song to match my mood no. I don't turn to music at all really.

Music......................

The only thing that all humans have in common...................

All creeds and cultures form their own music

"Considering we are both musicians ant go wrong with th OPs view"

I feel exactly the same. I've been playing in bands since I was 6. I couldn't live without music, either listening to it or making it. It's got me through so many dark times....

The ONLY,YES ONLY, you said thing all humans have in common. Apart from needing food, warmth, shelter, water and clothing. I think hunting also played a huge part for ancient man .Cave paintings are impressive and reading and writing and arithmetic. "I couldn't live without music" How dramatic.

What hardware are you using and where do you get your tape? I've recently switched over to using Cubase because I've run out of 2' tape and its like gold dust!

I guess one of the disturbing sides about being a slave to music, is those horrid fookers who never miss a chance to manipulate human behaviour for monetary gain, have infiltrated even the most innocuous situation such as playing music that makes susceptibly minded individuals linger around the frozen goods section of supermarkets where they become tempted to spend more than they’d intended just to wallow in the ambience of shopping to music..

But not this fella,,,,

i use a Korg emx electribe which is a drum.machine and synth

use a kaoss pad 3 for effect processing and sampling it has 4 sample banks

and use a kaossilator pro for synth/drums/1 shot samples it also doubles up as a sampler which can over lap unlimited times

everything saves internally and has SD card ports and has usb outputs

i usually run emx into kaossilator then into kaoss pad then into a mixer then mixer to speakers.

Yeah, I know but I'm old school. If it doesn't use tape and a proper desk then, to me, its software/digital.

I have a room with old compressors, valve Mic pre's, tube amps and an ancient API with Studer 800 machines and ATR 102 1/2 inch. That's proper old school recording!...

The one thing I do like about using stuff like Cubase is how quick everything is. I can't record and mix a song in a day now, whereas before it would take 3 or 4 days just to record everything depending on overdubs etc.

I just don't like the way digital compresses and cuts the top and bottom off the waveform, there's also room dynamics missing so the music feels less organic if that makes sense...
