Hi. Booked in for 2 tattoos tomorrow morning. Having a bow on each calf about ankle height. Ok I need to know is this going to bloody hurt !!!!!! Any suggestions for getting through it ?? X thanks xx |

I have a seriously high pain threshold so don't find them sore... a friend of mine swears by a painkiller about 30 mins prior to sitting and a lollipop to suck on. |

I love the sensation - would happily sit there for hours as I just zone out and enjoy!!!
Just relax, enjoy it and if needed take a break as required!!
There are far more painful spots to get inked!!

Lol. I got 3 different ones last time for a bit of variation. Only had one and that's coz I ran out of water as it was bloody roasting!! Doesn't have to be lollies, boiled sweets or anything to give you a bit of sugar works fine x |

go and sit with your arm in the air for 3 hours while they tattoo your under arm, nothing hurts after that

Dont have numbing cream it has the possibility of affecting the finished tattoo... id say just man up it wont be half as bad as you expect im planning on havin my ribs done soon |

I just got a huge tatoo covering the whole of my thigh.I went for the outline first and was agony so when I went bck for the colour I put numbing cream on and although it still hurt it wasnt even half a bad x |

Getting nervous now !! Can't hurt as much as my nipple piercing can it ??? Sorry guys piercing was removed after 9 months of hell. Tragus still pierced though ! Thinking just the one tattoo for now and have the other one done later xx my pain fresh hold isn't great ! Ouch !!! |

Back from tattooist. Only had the one calf done. The outline was a bit painful it was a weird sensation. The colouring in was fine. Stopped off and brought new shoes to help with the stinging !! Pic on profile of shoes. Xx thanks you for words of support x |

I hope your tattoos went ok, I had my 1st one last week in between my shoulder blades & it didn't hurt as much as I was expecting. x |

It does hurt but if you want it badly enough, and tattooing shouldnt ever be a decision taken lightly, then it's something you have to endure. It's not mind numbing extreme pain.
My foot and ankle were painful but the tattooist was really good and she would only do tiny bits at a time. The thing I found with my foot was it started to shake. |

Please excuse the waffle but I have been trying to understand this issue since i started to get heavily tattooed a few years ago.
This is the way I deal with it. I have had over 100hrs and still get work every few weeks.I am completing my half body suit.
Im grateful for the opportunity to actually put my thoughts down so here goes. Pls. excuse the waffle and the occ. abbreviation or sp. mistake.
(clears throat)
1) I get a smallish towel, cover my head and put my head down.. Then start deep breathing.
I time it so Breathe in deep when I hear the gun silent.. and breathe hard(ish) out when the needles hit the skin.. following a slow and deep rhythm.I ignore the pain and concentrate on the words "breathe in " "breathe out" as I go. Imagine Im in a white, peaceful room.
I do this and ignore the pain for about the first 15 mins. I will end up breathing in very slowly.. but often breathe out hard ( depents how sharp the area is.
The towel is good cos you can really grip it. I have been known to bite it.
By that time the endorphins will have kicked in and the blood cells will know that the skin damage and foreign pigment are not such an immediate danger and stop reacting so drastically.
The pain will not get any more markedly worse than what I have experinced.I find that I sort of get used to it after that period.
Then I power through it.. head up and stop the breathing method but i stay body relaxed... again to experience the pain at its worse and basically find the level i can take . What i find then is that I can simply "take it" at that point...
when and if i need to then i go back to the deep breathing and usually fall into a kind of relaxed slumber .
The times when im not "meditating" I like to watch what he does with a hand held mirror.. which I think helps with pain too as it does seem to hurt less when u watch. However there is the temptation to talk.
SO I tend to detach myself like this for longer periods..i have often fallen so dep into a trance i more or less dribble hahaha
I find keeping to myself in this way ( listening to fave happy music helps sessions go quicker ( cheaper) and id prefer the artist was in a zone too doing his thing rather than chatting shit to me at my expense and possible detriment.
