I've been re-evaluating my mindset about couples, singles, and what "swinging" actually means.

I said yesterday, and on previous occaisions, that swinging, to me, means swapping partners, and since singles don't have partners, then how can they possibly be swingers?

Well, folks, life evolves over time, and as such, lifestyles, fashions, trends, demography and all the things that dictate how we live our lives change too.

My mindset was stuck in "the swinging sixties" era, where I assume "wife swapping" became popular to the "swinging set"......well I've changed my mind and can see it from a different perspective.

OF COURSE SINGLES CAN BE SWINGERS....see I've said it now

I have a number of thoughts on this - yes I agree, only couples can "swap", but then you have to define couple.

1) Married: the traditional hence "tick"

2) Boyfriend/girlfriend/unmarried partners - the loophole in this being the commitment is there but others "can say" "oh but not tilly ou're married" (but thats just some nit picking I feel)

3) "Fuck Buddies"/"Swing Partners"/"Friends with benefits"/"Casual Playmates"/(pick term as appropriate): Whilst the pairing understand their dynamic, not everyone does or will and hence simply see them as two singles "taking advantage" of the "swap scene".

Then you have the singles. What gets my goat about some couples: they accuse single guys of not beign swingers cause they don't have a partner to swap with - yet have no problem with single females. Tut!

Its a midset thing I feel. I know single guys as well as single girls that have the mentality of being fantastic swingers (I even know one that isn't in the scene yet - I'm giving her time to find her way, lol) and at the same time know some coupels that you take one look at them and think "What the heck are you two doing here???"

Its not a status thing, its a mind thing, its a chemistry thing - tis a PEOPLE thing.

The only single i simply don't and likely never will see as swingers, are the ones only interested in meeting a single of the oposite sex..

Call it what you like, but in my mind if you are say a single male/female who only is interested in another single male/female.. then your just fucking or having a one night stand.

I beg to differ..

I have been in the scene for nigh on ten years and have done all there is to do.

Now i prefer to take things a little more slowly.

Hence me and one fella.

Its not a one night stand either as i have known him for two years plus.

He can see who he likes as i aint the jealous kind and he always tells me.

i can also see others if i so wish but dont have the time and often the inclination.

If summat real tasty pops up, i may change me mind.

But my mindset, is that of a Swinger.

And nothing else.

I meet with couples and femms as well so I can call myself a swingle, thanks for clearing that up.

I thought that one night stands and just fucking WAS what swinging was all about, NSA fun?

I don't want a relationship. Dating vanillas can mean the risk of one falling in love with the other which most singles on here don't want. Hence we swing.

I don't understand how playing with a femme or a couple makes me more of a swinger than if I just fuck guys?

Some seem to think that "swinging" is solely a pleasure for those married or in a longterm relationship.

And that us singles are there purely for their pleasure and the usage of.

Well think again .im certainly not and ITS certainly not.

The 60’s was wife swapping and that’s what you did and into the 70’s but with the increase in divorce and singles still in the scene it evolved into swinging. Wife swap parties are still that but swinging parties are for every one. Look at the club scene. Financially I would bet it’s the single guys cash that is a big part of their profits. Swinging for the couples and singles has proliferated over the last decade with it being a singles/couples thing so long live swinging.

Thank you, I thought I was the only one thinking some would suppose we are here to be picked up and used as 'toys'

Many couples seek single guys and bi-femms but continue to play exclusively with each other, should I say if you have each other why play with singles? find another couple to play with and leave them all for me? LMAO! xx

My mindset was in agreement with your first sentence.

When we started playing, we never even thought about, or even considered the very existence of single players. We had enjoyed a totally monogamous relationship ever since we met, so couples were always going to be where our "head" was.

We have been enjoying "the scene" for nearly two years now and have enjoyed playing with singles, both ladies and gents, but it wasn't until after yesterdays forum debate with Femme, that I have really thought about the role that singles actually play in our lives.

Ahhhh I'm at peace with myself now

lol,

We are a couple who enjoy a different lifestyle and sexual variations to most, we like to swap partners, as a single guy I have been to clubs where there are like minded people who do the same and I have arranged meets through places like this, we have played with couples and singles.

To most we are "swingers" to some we are not, we don't really care what label you give us, the label won't stop us or aid us doing what we enjoy.

I do detest that attitude, I really do. Fortunately I don't think it is a huge recurring theme, just some who think that way.

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the fact I'm entering into a couples sex life and for them that requires huge levels of trust etc etc... all the sorts of things I don't have to worry about at the moment, but it doesn't mean we should be treated like the shit on the bottom of their shoe... and at that point I refuse to be

Not the popular mindset I know but I sort of agree with what you say, although as I have said before when this comes up that so long as folks are happy they can call themselves anything they want.

If my son goes out to the pub or a club and meets a girl and they enjoy an evening of uncomplicated NSA fun there is no way either of them would wake in the morning and consider themselves swingers.

IMHO and I do stress IMHO "swinging" in what ever scenario anyone can suggest only takes place when a combination of men and women comprising of 3 or more folk enjoy uncomplicated sexual fun together.

Are singles swingers? In the above context yes they most certainly are.

Are singles who only look for other singles to play with on a 1 to 1 basis swingers?

Looks as if some of us will have to agree to disagree on that one

Nowhere in that post did I state that we don't play with singles and by simply reading my post you would realise that by being a single and playing with couples, you wouldn't fall into that catagory of

Singles who ONLY play with other singles..

Hope that clears it up.

As to playing with you,I wouldn't actualy know until i met you and decided if an attraction existed.

We play with females, couples and we used to play with guys too. Have no problem with any of them in the scene at all. Can't understand all this label hanging.

BUT... I must say that one thing really pisses us off! It has happened twice and is one of the reasons (apart from the no shows we have had) we rarely play with single guys.

We played with a guy probably a dozen times and we had a load of fun. He was quite happy to come into our bedroom and play with Mrs R...

Then he met a female swinger! She was quite happy to play and even emailed us to say as much, but when I mailed him, he replied that he won't lend HIS woman to anyone else.

OK... So he is the jealous sort and that is a warning to took notice of, but reading to the bottom of the mail, he asked if Saturday was OK for him to come play on his own...............

I know that is not perhaps what all singles would be like, but I suspect that loads are! Like I said it has happened to us twice in slightly different circumstances, so now we don't play with single guys... Funny how BOTH of the women were more than happy to play!

That said.... I love the term Swingles if ya gotta put a name on it!

If you remove the need for a pre-existing relationship (of some kind) to exist and/or the inclusion of additional people… and call all recreational sex ‘swinging’ … so that 2 singles on here meeting for 1-2-1 sex is ‘swinging’, then what differentiates that 1-2-1 sex from vanilla 1-2-1 sex? What makes it any different to what an awful lot of young folk will be doing after their night out tonight?..... Are they swinging? I doubt they think they are. So if they are not swinging how can 2 singles meeting for 1-2-1 sex on here be swinging?

That doesn’t mean they are not swingers… but then that surely depends on their attitude towards sexual relationships. It always makes me laugh when people claim to be swingers and then add they would never swing if they were in a real life relationship and only meet on hear for 1-2-1 sex.

Why is there such a need to try and make a term which struggled to have a clear definition in the first place even more fuzzy by including everyone who wants it to fit… especially when they have opposing beliefs to the traditional meaning?

Doing 10 laps at Krazy Karts doesn’t make someone a racing driver…. but Jenson Button will still be a racing driver when he walks into a shop.

I find its the guys who have most hang ups when meeting..

I have met several "swinging" fellas and as soon as i have met and we have got on......

Why do people even feel the need to be catergorised, as long as we are all having safe clean fun what they hell does it matter?? I came into the swinging scene 5 years ago as a couple but now I am just a single female looking to have fun. I admitally have mostly met single guys but I tell you this its never just a one night stand have met every guy again plus more and been to swingers clubs with some and gangbangs with others. I am myelf and I will not let anyone catergorise me. People who are in couples on here are happy too meet up with singles so we good enough for you to bring into your bedroom to make your sex life more fun but if we as a single want to bring someone into our bedroom its just a one night stand?? Very much sounds like double standars, pot and kettle...........

I would agree with it being a double standard thing. 3 or 4 people are swingers but 2 aren't? So does double penetration or female on female have to happen to make it a swinging act?

There is no double standards being applied there, it's nothing more than interpretation.

For some of us the term "swinging" implies more than 2 folk playing, not saying we are right but it's just an opinion.

For some folk only 2 people playing is no different from a vanilla night out, not saying we are right, it's just an opinion

No i said singles who are only interested in other singles..

That word ONLY seems to cause far to much confusion obviously.

In no way when I was single meeting ONLY singles did I ever consider it swinging, so why should i change my opinion of it now?

The only difference I see in a single only pulling other singles in a pub or doing it at a swing club, is that the swing club is possibly far far safer.

A single who goes out and is open to meeting couples or singles in the interest of seing how the night pans out, or where the mood takes them, is someone can easily see as a swingle

I'm sory my personal opinions do not match up to the way you wish it to read causing you to see insult that simply isn't there.

Who has the double standards if you think a one night stand deserves "just" putting in front of it?

Doesn't that imply a hierarchy of sexual activity and one being the lesser or more superior to the other.

i love threads like this - things being taken in the wrong context etc people taking offence where opinions were offered lol

i am single and have played one on one in the majority of cases and yes, this does just seem like people meeting for sex but then what is the difference between meeting a guy for a one off meet and meeting a couple for a one off meet??

yes one on one meets can happen at the end of a night on the town but both can happen on a night out (ok, the couple thing may be harder to find down Chicagos )

why label people on here as swingers and non-swingers?? its all a bit of extra curricular fun

It doesn't it was a question that's why there is a ? mark at the end. I take it you and your husband wouldn't be swingers if it was a pre requisite. (No ? mark so i wasn't asking i was making a broad statement without any facts behind it)

It would seem if a couple was to have 'casual sex' with another couple then that is 'swinging'.

However, if a single was to have 'casual sex' with another single, then that would be 'casual sex'.

So, am I right in saying, couples have a special label for having 'casual sex', that being 'swingers'?.

We don't care for any labels really, it all comes down to casual sex in the end, if we want anyone in particular joining us in bedtime antics then they are welcome, regardless of label.

Yep looks like it according to some. And if a couple has sex with a single the couple are having a half swing but the single is still having casual sex.

So what? Why does that matter?

I consider myself a swinger because of my beliefs about recreational sex. It’s been a handy label to quickly and simply explain I am more than open to additional people being introduced into parts of a sexual relationship…. ie when I have a partner (be that a traditional one or a fuck-buddy) I’ll be interested in us sharing the sexual enjoyment of other people.

I don’t consider most of the sex I have to be swinging… I wouldn’t even try to call a 1-2-1 meets swinging so I have no problem whatsoever with people saying it’s not swinging, as I agree with them.

I do have a problem with people thinking one type of recreational sex is superior to the other.

It’s ALL ‘just’ recreational sex. I don’t need to call it swinging to make me feel less ashamed or less guilt or for any other reason.

I also have a problem with people who come onto swinging sites thinking everyone is an easy lay… but that’s a different matter all together. Well it’s not actually… they will never be swingers in my book as they are the ones who do tend to have double standards… “yeah I’ll fuck your wife, but no way would a bird of mine get fucked by any of you lot!” type thing.

"

Exactly, it doesn't take a couple to become swingers, it takes the right mind set to become a swinger.

Makes me feel, erm, Special.

Just because you travelled to school on a 'special bus' ... "

Too special for that, I had a special teacher visit me.

No! Wrong!... the label would be swinging.

Swinging - implying there are more than 2 people involved and in most cases a connection of sorts between two of them.

Swinger = the person

Swinging = the activity

We don't do labels either as I said earlier I care not what people refer to themselves as, however I can have an opinion and my opinion is based on perceptions as opposed to anything more concrete.

Scenario 1

As a single person you meet another single person from this site and enjoy a night of fun. You tell your friends about your evening leaving out which site it was you met him/her on.

How many friends think you were swinging?

Scenario 2

As a single person you meet a couple from this site and enjoy an evening of fun. You tell your friends about it.

How many friends think you were not swinging?

It's nothing more than a perception and for some, those singles who ONLY EVER seek to meet other single are doing nothing more than other folk on vanilla dating sites

Sometimes and I mean only sometimes and not all. It looks to me as though some couples try and lay claim to singles and other couples etc. Often they feel threatened by the single men wanting them only to play with couples and not with single women! God forbid they do that and deprive the true swinger THE COUPLE the chance of plating with the elusive bi female. That’s why they try and say “oh no no no your not a swinger because your single” It is at times a little insulting, but I think the ones saying it are well aware of that fact.

Just as a matter of interest maybe the site owners do class single as swingers as they have both single male, single female and couples singles status available.

Also you play with a couple one night on your own MMF, a single the next MF then you play with your FB and a couple MMFF do you have to change your status each time form swingle, to swinger to vanilla?

Ok rant over!

O o O oo

Almost scared to post after that last one but here goes.

What we would class as a swinger is more than two in a sex act. 1-2-1 we would class as NSA sex.

As we were told we were not swingers either because we only play with single men, then we am happy with whatever label you want to call us, as long as we can still have fun

Exchanges PARTNER - this does not say spouse by marriage....

Anyway.... All you couples that say singles aren't swingers stop asking them to join you.

When anyone says 1-2-1 sex isn’t swinging, why do so many people start jumping up and down as if it’s an argument about them as a person not being a swinger?

Ashley Cole has a broken ankle and so won’t be playing any football for sometime…. He’s still a footballer though! He doesn’t stop being a footballer just because he’s not playing football does he?

When a couple (from here) has a quiet night in on their own do you see them trying to claim they were swinging with each other? Do they stop being swingers because they are having conventional sex?

Nouns and verbs…. two different things!

Just had a thought.....

Bare with me.

As far as I am aware swinging was once commonly known as 'wife swapping', the reason being that couples swapped partners, and the term penned together as 'wife swapping'.

Then, as more singles were invited into this scene the term changed to accommodate them, term changed to 'swingers', because if sharing with a single then 'wife swapping' didn't come into it.

So, it's possible that singles helped pen together the term 'swingers' as without them we would simply be 'wife swappers'.

Just a thought.

What we hate is when singles, both men AND women say "I will only swing while I'm single. If I get a partner,no way will I share them!".

In that instance,who's using who?

i dont know who i am anymore

hell it only a name or a label!

maybe site owners could put a singles seeking singles option then that keeps the "real" swingers happy and the singles in their own wee group??

did the term "swinger" not come in in the 60's? bonks you were there u tell us!

and it was used to describe someone footloose and fancy free kinda thing??

personally at the end of the dya u can stick what label you want on me i will do as i please and who i please!!

so big up the singles!!!

anyway only decent label is gucci!!

Exactly, that's why state of mind deems one a swinger, and another a chancer/user or whatever term anyone would like to use, state of mind rather than status.
