Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

We haven't had a musicals thread for a while.

I went to see Top Hat recently and it reminded me how great musicals are on stage.

What's your favourite and the stand out song for you?

I enjoyed the Sound of Music on stage. The kids don't want to go to the Lion King.

I'm going to try and get tickets for West Side Story - my all time favourite.

What about the Sing-a-long-a-Sound of Music? It's the film but a lot of fun.

I feel the need to watch the King and I now. Shall We Dance?

Pippin was a brilliant musical in 1970s by Stephen Schwartz (of Wicked fame) a really lovely song from it was ' I guess I'll miss the man '

Not one of which I have heard. Is it worth a revival?

I think it was refreshingly different from many standard formats

U might know one other song from it? 'Corner of the sky ' - Jackson5 did a souped up version of it!

I have been really lucky to see loads of musicals in London - my favourite night out xx

I would love to go to see Wicked, and Rocky Horror.

loved We Will Rock You as I love Queen x but I really enjoyed Barnum in the 80's - Michael Crawford played the lead, but they are reviving this - worth seeing.

My faves have been Chicago, Jersey Boys, West Side Story and Rock of Ages. Priscilla was really good fun too.

I prefer my musicals to have a bit of an edge to them, Stephen Sondheim for example.

That's true. I just always think of West Side Story as Bernstein. I'll have too see if there are any tickets left in the morning.

I don't think that either was very happy working with the other - perhaps the friction brought out the best of both.

"Into the Woods" is a very adult take on a handful of nursery tales. Am I the only one to be a bit disturbed that, in the new film, Red Riding Hood will be a child actress? Or is a very witty script going to get going to get the Hollywood bowdlerisation treatment?

For all you lovers of musicals Radio 4 Extra is broadcasting whole productions at the strange hour of 9am on Saturday mornings.

Last week was Sweeney Todd but tomorrow is Guys and Dolls.

Get your tape recorders out for a treat.

It agree.

Many moons ago I used to know the choreographer and I wish I had asked her about some of the staging.
