What did you want to be when you was a little one? And what, if anything, stopped you from doing that?
I always wanted to be a screen writer. I've been thinking of scripts but haven't got down to writing one yet
So I would say laziness and work have stopped me writing |

A doctor - until my careers 'adviser' at school laughed at me and said that because I was working class and a girl I would never get to University. Killed my ambition for a long time. |

What a bastard.Must have been an idsiot. I'm older than you and a lot of working class girls from the local Grammar School went to University. Appalling attitude that person had.

I (the female half) wanted to be the first woman in the red arrows.... was told by my career advisor that it wasn't a job that women could do and I should give up on the idea..... I didn't but when I actually sat in one of the planes when I was 18, I found out that at 5ft 1, I was too short and would only ever be able to fly small helicopters..... dreams shattered into pieces....

This was in state education though - that's the point. Had I been in a grammar school it would have been both expected and encouraged. |

Ditto! I wanted to be a doctor but needed to go to grammar school. Miss Hughes, the headmistress at my primary school told my parents I wasn't being realistic I'd be better at a comprehensive school where being a nurse was achievable.
Forty one years later I still remember her name, and the look of agreement on my mothers face. |

Now I felt the same and wanted to give a few months of my life to this organisation until I read the the book the ex president of it wrote and realised that it would be completely selfish of me at this time to leave my family and head off into dangerous warzones where I may never return from |

Yes I understand what you mean and that’s a perfectly valid and appropriate concern,,,,,
The MSF Doctors and Nurses I met who’d worked in conflict zones said their greater fear in those situations related more to being harmed by accidental means rather than by either side of any warring faction…
But I guess we’ve all seen the news where sadly sometimes that’s not the case,,, so yeah maybe not an ideal job for those with overriding family commitments...
