Over the rainbow, under the bridge |
Did something today which I've not done since my 20s. Needed to get some gardening done but didn't want to wear a pair of jeans as it was too hot. Couldn't wear a pair of shorts as they would be ruined. So I got an old pair of jeans and cut them down into shorts. Not very interesting or dramatic - but made me chuckle to think I would be wearing denim cut offs in my 50s. Not something my mum would ever have done!
How do you recycle old clothes for new use? |

"I bet you looked fab!
I (Mrs) have been known to unravel jumpers/cardi's and reknit the wool into something new "
Lovely of you to say so - but I so didn't! LOL Good job I have high fences or I might have scared the neighbour's children.
My mum used to unravel wool to knit new stuff. We always had matching gloves, scarves and hats for winter when I was a kid. She never bought them - ever. |

I do this as well - donate and buy from charity shops. But how many people recycle their own clothes for their own use - whatever that use may be? |

I've made draught excluder sausages using squares of old clothes on the outside and offcuts to stuff. I sew things with nicer looking fabrics, take the buttons off things for my button jar, I've made cushions out of for example a tshirt I have had for a long time but never really worn because it is just too short but I've kept it cos I love the design on the front so I used the front to make a cushion, using denim from old jeans for the back. |

I'll haven't done it much recently however I've been known to turn v neck jumpers into a vest tops, old silky nighties into cushion covers, I've cut up old shirts and turned them into a peg bag, I've made dresses out of skirts and tops, adding extra fabric for a belt.... I've turned some of my old tops into babygrows/trousers in the past when my son was a baby....
I used to be very good with a sewing machine, but haven't used one in a year or so!! |

I don't decorate any more. Got someone to do it and I also have a gardener -but I thought I'd save some money by chopping a lot of overgrown stuff down on my own. |

I used to make all my daughter's clothes when she was at school - as I was so skint. Not used a sewing machine in years. |

Yes I do, all the time. I often embellish clothes, underwear and shoes as I like decoration. Its only small things like changing buttons or adding collars or adding diamantes or flowers on shoes, that kind of thing. I've done this for years and started in my goth and new romantic days and it's been a continuing thing.
I like creativity and individuality and it's surprising how just simply adding accessories can change the look of an outfit |

Never really have time to do stuff like that anymore. |
