I've got The Incredible Hulk on as background noise...just heard Liv Tyler calling "Bruce" to the Hulk...his name was David Banner in the original series...why do film-makers need to change such a fundamental thing? Bruce Banner, whilst alliterative, means nothing to me as it was David Banner who must let the world go on thinking that he too is dead, until he can find a way to control the raging spirit that dwells within him... |

He was actually Dr Robert Bruce Banner in the comics. It was the series that changed it originally i think?!
They change shit because they like to have creative input so it doesnt look so much like they get paid to ruin things. |

"Was it really??? Thanks guys and gals, you learn summat every day, but it's still David Banner for me!"
You're welcome, and you'll be glad to know that at least they didn't go with his alter ego, the Grey Hulk aka Joe Fixit! |

You're thinking of Robert the Bruce. I am a graphic novel fan and I have the Marvel Guide to Superheroes. Always been Bruce Banner. Never Robert. |

With a bit of research...
Ok your last questrion first becasue I do know the answer unequivocably to that one. At the time when Bill Bixby was going to play the Dr Banner part, it was decided to change the name to David because "Bruce" was not considered "macho" enough by the TV powers that be, even though an Olympic athlete had just won like 7 Gold medals. The athletes name was Bruce Jenner.
The comic series, as far as I can remember never had a David Banner, but I havent read every issue. Bruce's father in the movie is named David, but I cant find any reference to him in the comics. The powers David Banner had in the movie were in the comics tho; a villian named "absorbing man" had them, but he was not Bruce's father.
Taken from the web. Will always be Breuce to me. |

His full name was Robert Bruce Banner, doesnt mean he had to be called by his full name. trust me, please. Im also a veteran of Marvel.
Go to comicvine.com and type Bruce Banner, then read the first paragraph you see. Comic Vine is one of the most comprehensive and informative comic wikipedias on the internet. |
