Just heard a story about a toddler falling into a gorilla pit and the gorilla minded it in a loving way until the toddler was recovered safely ?

For every lovely Soviet story about animals with compassion there are 5 more about animals ripping limbs off people because they thought they were cuddly toys.

I do understand what you are saying evie and you are bang on correct in my opinion .. we should limit interaction with wild animals where ever possible as it is difficult to anticipate how they may react ... you only have to look at the 'domestic monkey' in America story that ripped a womans face off

Wild animals are wild and unpredictable, however, us humans can generally recognise young of many other mammals, due to proportions of head to body, large ears etc. and it brings out our nurturing instinct. I should not be surprised that a higher ape should not do the same thing - recognise a baby and nurture it.

Didn't it happen at Jersey Zoo? The male gorilla was fascinated by the little boy, who had knocked himself out. As he started to come round, the male got a wee bit agitated and scared because the wee boy was distressed, but it was an amazing thing to see. It's probably on YT.

O o O oo

I read today of a dog who kept nudging a womans breast for weeks, she told him off in the end but then found a lump and it turned out she had cancer.

We also had a dog that used to be asleep but jump up and look out of the window just before I turned the corner of the street.

So....maybe

One of mine just jumped up on my brand new duvet cover .... With mucky paws, looked at me and scarpered...

Guess he knew my foot was going to go up his arse.

Yes, they smell the cancer. They are training dogs to detect cancers. There sense of smell is apparently 1000's of times more sensitive than humans.

My dog knows 8pm when he gets his dentistick treat so if you come home from work at the same time everyday then the chances are they will be expecting you.

Wild animals seem to be able to detect earthquakes before humans know anything about them, probably domestic animals too.
