Lurkers

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

My last thought of the day I really have to do something constructive as its nearly home time...

Who starts off labels like newbies and timewasters and lurkers. It can look intimidating when trying to crack an established group (notice I didnt say clique, but then did) Im a real outsider in most things I do and I like it that way. but now and a gain I dip my toe in water and make a connection. When are you no longer a newbie? Is there a time scale? Or do you have to be approved by the established group? And who established them?

Timewasters - well you wasted that time together and you cant get to know someone till you spend tim ewith them. If you are disappointed at the outcome after spending that time together then say Im disappointed, not 'you're a time waster'. If you cant spot career mess arounderers on these sites you're not trying. Just look at their vast list of friends and verifications via cam, not meets. We're all masters of our own time keeping.

Lurkers - Im told those are people who read the forums but rarely post. Perhaps they just don't want to join in but thoroughly enjoy just reading. Surely its flattering they come back time and time again to hear what you say? Doesn't seem fair to label them.

Anyway Im a single woman and dont swing so am I a swingle?

very few people like labels but it's hard to live life without them, especially if your in Asda looking for a can of beans when no cans have them on

But if someone is new to the forums it is a descriptive term meant in a none derogatory way

Bi women are labeled as bi its easier than saying

Couple with man who likes women only and woman who likes men and women

same for all the other lables bi males, straight males, regulars, old hands etc

"p.s. forgot to introduce myself to the newbies, I am old git"

Youre a beautiful young hottie if we're labelling!! Ive just looked at your lovely profile album.

Yea but bi is a term used outside of these websites and is generic and widely used I was just meaning the terms specific to the sites. Newbies is cute. Im not keen on lurkers it seems a bit unfair.

Im just off to make some rice pudden on toast.. I have tins from the war you know...

carefull wartime tins only have a recommended shelf life of 40 years (official)

Those packages after 1955 have a recommended shelf life of 25 years

Some flour found 2 years ago on a sunken ship that had been attempting to deliver it to Troops defending Fort Sumner during the American Civil War was found to be in perfect condition and safe to eat.

But would you believe it - the damn stuff wasn't labelled so when they opened the barrels most of it spilled out on the deck of the ship that recovered it and was wasted

"Newbies is cute. Im not keen on lurkers it seems a bit unfair."

I don't know where the others came from, but newbie is not exclusive to this site... it comes from online gamers (sometimes spelt 'noob') and is generally intended as an insult, fortunately here it isn't used that way.

I kinda like Lurkers myself though

Perhaps Ive misinterpretted the meaning of lurkers then - I had an imagery that they were considered mac wearers and not welcome as they didnt contribute by writing Whats the real interpretation?

MY interpretation of "Lurker" is purely one who reads more than they post, (regardless of wardrobe attire)

I will admit if they are female and sexy I tend to imagine they are wearing lingerie rather than raincoats though

What about transparent P.V.C ? As a raincoat that is ... bit noisy for lingerie.

There are no stats available to us plebians that use the site to know definitively just how many 'lurkers' visit the site day by day.

Web stats are recorded in page hits. IP addresses are recorded so that page hits from the same IP can be recorded as well as IP addresses from different sources. This gives an accurate report on just who is visiting the site, and as the stats for who is actively using the site, ie Forum postings, chat logs, profile views, it's quite an easy task to ascertain how many visitors to the site don't actually use it. I'd like to know what the stats are, if Admin don't mind posting a brief, general usage report.

"I am still none the wiser on the meaning of the word Lurkers but feel that I have learnt so much about the Use By dates on wartime tins....."

I rang my mother to talk about the war cos she loves it and I mentioned unlabelled tins. She said they used to shake them to try to identify the ones with peaches in them because any old veg would go on the dinner regardless, but peaches were a treat. Her brother once hit on lucky and opened two tins in search of peas and my gran hit him over the head with collander for 'wasting food'! awwwww so nostalgic.

Best not to let my mam know its being discussed on a sex forum! That can of worms I dont want to open....
