York..... History, rivers, pubs. Hour on train to Nrwcastle. Or close to Leeds.
Newcastle area... Metro centre, harry potter castle, great Northumberland cottages to rent.  |

Dartmoor or Fort William and Loch Ness...go some distance and explore. The Lake District is picturesque. |

Or as Steve says Fort William!
I once rented a place up there for a short break not too far from Ben Nevis. In fact I could see it out of the window!
However it is a bit boring as I discovered!  |

I have looked at Norfolk broads!
So that's on the list, never been to Scotland so that's on the list!
Lakes are lovely and went there a few years ago!  |
