The amount of times I have heard this excuse for poor spelling and grammar and now used as an inability to read profiles!
I wonder what the percentage is that these people DO actually have dyslexia...
Btw I am not disrespecting those who do have the condition, but those who lie! |

The current liar (whose profile and initial message and response have been accurate in spelling and grammar) then proceeds to mock the condition with his next "illiterate" message.
Rant over... Off to decorate |

Found this very disrespectful, i am onr f those people who claim to be dyslexia but it's not officaly diagnosed, the system failed me when I was young.
But I got over it I run my own business and have a great family. I never ask for putty just understanding.
Come on I mean what's the end of world a few missed,,, ... ect, let's just get over this and like people for who they are on the inside. |

"One of us has it. Honestly would someone lie ? Would it not just brush over their embarrassment felt when crucified by the grammar Nazis ?"
Yeah cos no-one on here lies about age, height, relationship status etc
Also, I'm happy to admit I'm a grammar Nazi but have tolerance for -
1. Those not native to our language.
2. Those who DO have dyslexia.
3. Typos/fat finger syndrome/ predictive text.

On a serious note... I had a boyfriend when I was younger who I was convinced was dyslexic. I took him to be officially tested and they said he wasn't. The described him as 'A computer that works perfectly well but just hasn't been programmed' I fear a lot of people are in a similar situation but dyslexia is an easier way to describe it and mean that no one is at fault. It's a get out of jail free card for parents and teachers and adults who don't want to fix it themselves. Dyslexia is a real condition but most people I speak to say they are but have never been 'officially' diagnosed and just say it as an throw away comment. You wouldn't say 'I've got Aspergers but it hasn't been officially diagnosed' |

Now if people can't even understand them, then yes I agree but most is just a few letters here and there.
There is more important things to life so let's get on with it, and just leave this minor problem alone, which makes so many feel embarrassed when confronted over it. |

This is point we don't use it as an excuse.
I agree there might be some people who lie, but like me if they can't spell then weather its called can't spell or dyslexia they have a problem. I just think thus should be one thing left alone. |

I'm sorry if I come across as a little upset but this subject always gets me.
When you say the people who lie that's what I'm trying to say technically that's me, because I'm not officially diagnosed.
But that's my whole point how can it be a lie, surely if someone is not dyslexic then they just have spelling problems which to me is the same thing |

But it isn't the same thing at all! Spelling problems is the result of someone not learning something not the result of someone who is not able to learn something.
See my earlier post. The difference between a computer that works find but isn't programmed and a computer that is programmed but doesn't work correctly. If you haven't been diagnosed then you can't call yourself dyslexic. Get tested and find out. |

I have dyslexia and dyspraxia (who the hell thought up those words!!?).
I get mad at myself when I have read many times before sending a pos/pm then read it online and see mistakes.
Trouble is you just don't see them!
BUT It is not an excuse!
I must try my best and I have succeded in life and done well in a very techincal area. So whilst I can spell chrysanthemum, I end up putting form instead of from!
Hay ho such is life!

But my point is I'm not a lazy person so it's not that I do want to learn its just something I can't learn, i have been told by teachers just not medical or what ever it is.
All in trying to say is why go mad at people for a few wrong letters ect, why can't we live in harmony and all get on.
There is far more important things in the world to worry about than a few missed letters.
Look at sir Richard Branson (my role model) he gas the condition and look at him, bet if he wrote a something in here and people new it was him wouldn't jump on him would they.
Just can't say it enough let's just leave the silly issue if a few missed letters alone |

Yes but you have probably been diagnosed. I think the point is a lot of people say they are dyslexic because they can't spell but have never been diagnosed and just say it. There is a difference! People shouldn't say they have a condition as an excuse when they don't actually have it or know they have it. It detracts from those who actually do have it. |

Not saying you are lazy... But if you haven't been diagnosed through appropriate testing then you can't say you are dyslexic. You wouldn't do it with any other condition. You might just be bad a spelling. This does not mean you are dyslexic. |

Sorry didn't mean u said i was lazy, just saying I'm not lazy it's just something I can't do.
I can't stand people who say the can't do something when in fact the won't try/do it.
I'm ver good at other things just not spelling Grammer, i have got better since I was young but now it's just a block.
I recently started col entry work for a children's organization, and never thought I would do that with my problem. But they welcomed me with open arms and now I personally help do many young people with things they can't cope with, and im forever praised for my efforts. Apart from my kids that is one of my proudest moments in life.
I just think like them there could be more understanding It never hurts anyone |

Everyone's got this, everyones got that. Why is everyone so quick to get a diagnosis and categorise themselves ?
You are who you are, and those who care will accept you. I've got a lot of this and a lot of that, but I aim to get what I wish for, not focus on what I don't have and what hinders me. |

"The amount of times I have heard this excuse for poor spelling and grammar and now used as an inability to read profiles!
I wonder what the percentage is that these people DO actually have dyslexia...
Btw I am not disrespecting those who do have the condition, but those who lie!" For years I would never wright. I was too scared of what people would think until I had my pc it helped me. There was a stigma with saying you can't read and write well and I felt that for years and find ways around it if I could. I have four children with this at different levels and have over the years sending them to special schools found out a lot more that helped me too. People who have it grapple with their unexpected difficulty in reading and writing everyday can make you feel anxiety and depression all sorts as I have in my time.
Dyslexia doesn't mean dumb . It means their brains process written language differently than the brains of non-dyslexic . Some people here on fab with it do what ever helps them and maybe not send the best letters and maybe skip over reading a profile . Dyslexia takes different levels and some will find it hard to own up to having this here like I did for years .. But I now like to be open and say now .. no need to lie I am what I am and have this.

Hehe ,close to my heart this one, I am dyslexic, known since I was 8 ,but before anyone pulls me up on having no spelling mistakes its because, some people who have dealt with it for many years have systems in place to get over /around it, I have no problem with reading words, so I am able to look them up, copy them down etc, also auto correct is a massive help, I really feel for people whos condition is alot worse than mine, as my life has been tough enuff with it. For me I rough rite things down, and go through it, and rerite the best I can, I just left another site because I got the piss taken every time I tryed to chat, so it wasn,t a place for me, I really hope this will be a more welcoming place, and before anyone asks, this has just taken me over,an hour to rite. Lol |

I have dyslexia
I can read an write
But what I read does not sink in
Or I have to read the same item 5-6 times to understand what it is saying
I can't read out loud or write joined up
But I am very good at maths
And very skilled with my hands
Yes it is embarrassing at times
I could not read to my kids at bed time
I can not fill forms in
I can't help kids with there homework
Unless its maths
So if people are using it as an excuses
They should try living daily with it

Call me stupid but i still don't get your meaning,
What I take it as your now meaning is people lie about having it if they don't at all.
Now please explain why sum one wud come on here deliberately spell wrong then say I have dyslexia just so you feel sorry for them?? I have never heard this would it not be was yet fir them to just say they have lost someone ect ect so you feel sorry for them??.
When in past I have been backed into a corner over my problem I have pointed out what I beleive i have, and it as the opposite affect to people feeling sorry for me, they start with that old excuse ect, but i still give them what for as i wont be put down.
So if u have had sum one who has claim to be dyslexic and u have proven they are blatant liers then im so sorry for jumping, but I doubt it it works like this. |

Agree with u both, we shine in other ways. Upto date i am great reading and maths getting better at spelling, shit St Grammer/punctuation and terrible at not being able to see mistakes always until its to late, im an expert at that point but it's to bloody late to change it all im asking us people can have this problem and still get on with life so just don't judge. I wonder what the percentage is that these people DO actually have dyslexia...
Btw I am not disrespecting those who do have the condition, but those who lie!
Sooooo you take it personally cos you choose to ignore my last paragraph.... Hmmmm no i really didn't take it personally, I just find it hard why people can't accept a small problem with people's spelling/Grammer.
Now if people can't even understand them, then yes I agree but most is just a few letters here and there.
There is more important things to life so let's get on with it, and just leave this minor problem alone, which makes so many feel embarrassed when confronted over it.
I am on about those who LIE about it!
I'm sorry if I come across as a little upset but this subject always gets me.
When you say the people who lie that's what I'm trying to say technically that's me, because I'm not officially diagnosed.
But that's my whole point how can it be a lie, surely if someone is not dyslexic then they just have spelling problems which to me is the same thing
grrrrrrrrr
I am on about the BLATANT liars! why are u getting do upset, u put this out there and this is my opinion.
Why does anyone lie about anything? |

I can read an write

"I love reading folks written profiles. It helps me build up a mental picture of their character. If everyone wrote the Queens perfect English, with no grammatical & spelling mistakes or text speak, it would make our selection process more difficult... "
Sorry not jumping on you, but what I think you mean is if someone makes mistakes you font bother to meet. This is your loss if so. The txt speak as you call it I like to use as it makes it easier done times and it becomes an excuse because people don't realise you can't spell.
So if i am rite and you won't meet someone if they can't spell. What makes them a bad meet because of that?? And why does someone who can sell make them a good meet x |

We all make perceptions of others based on the information we have at hand. You have demonstrated in your response your own perception of us based based on the forum post that I wrote. There is nothing wrong with perceptions as per say. They help us establish the likelihood of us getting on. Unfortunately , the down side is that we may verywell miss a great opportunity to meet some great people.
We don't reject possible meets on spelling or grammatical mistakes a lone. Christ, our spelling and grammar if freaking bad. It's more text speak and and repetitive chave talk that we dislike.

OK fair enough I agree, chav txt speak I can't stand. I tend to use shortened txt speak.
I was just wondering if you was choosing declining meets purely
Based on spelling/ Grammer but u see what you mean x |

I was fortunate enough to be diagnosed when I was just starting secondary school. Predictive text really doesn't help because the word doesn't look wrong to me, because of the spelling issue I always tried so much harder with grammar though. xx |

Dyslexia is a recognised Learning Disability. It's so much more than not being able to spell.
People shouldn't lie about having it when they haven't anymore than you should if you had any other disability.
People that do have it usually quietly get on with it trying to work around it . The don't usually shout about it. |

You're saying I'm judging?
Who and on what?
I have not made one judgement call on anyone who HAS or think they have dyslexia. I have pondered as to what the percentage of people who state they are dyslexic actually are (irrelevant of diagnosis). I am talking about the liars! |

You seriously are putting words into my mouth (so to speak) which is soooo wrong!
The person who contacted me this morning, his grammar AND spelling on his messages AND his profile was spot on! Due to his message I asked why he didn't read my profile. He responded on the lines of having dyslexia. HE then took the mickey out of someone with dyslexia by making up an error ridden message!
I was offended FOR, yes FOR people who have the condition dyslexia.
Can I say it any clearer my opening and subsequent posts have not been about disrespecting those with or think they have dyslexia!!!!!!!

But your missing the point again yes god forbid people claim to have cancer that don't gain from money and sympathy ect ect, so that's which they lie.
Why would someone lie they had dyslexia?? It's not for the sympathy because most people these days see it as lazy, so again I ask why would the want to lie over it?? Surely they would say my mums just died fancy a fuck??? |
