Just had my car MOT'd and to say it failed categorically is an understatement. Looking at £100s in repairs. If I've no car I can't go to work, if I can't go to work I've no car. Mechanic is pricing it up exactly for me as I type. |

I always try and use my local garage, tends to be a little cheaper. Once i forgot about my mot, run out the same day i took it to a garage where i was working in a panic, explained the situation, said they would squeeze me in to help me out, yeah helped me out all right, i wouldve been better pulling my boxers down and letting them shaft me cos that's exactly what they done, nearly £500 it cost me, never ever again.
hope yours isn't too pricey. |

"Find a council run mot garage. Less likely to fail your car as they don't carry out repairs."
it was an independent one that did it. Wheel bearings and suspension as well as springs the main problems. |

Less likely to fail your car, if it needs repairs that come under the MOT.
Do they not fail you then |

It was an independent garage.. so they won't fail it but still get quotes from at least two garages for the repairs. Xxx |

Been on this.
Imagine, going in for a clutch repair. £200 ish.
Alright. No problem, I knew it was that, I could feel it slipping.
... OIl leaked onto the gearbox, blew it to pieces.
Try 600+. Have a nice Christmas!
/cry ... Thank lord I had a safety net! |

A garage that offers MOT and repair service, is looking to keep its mechanics working and make a profit.
There is discretion in most things even on a MOT, certificate, so they are not breaking the law, just bending it.
Exactly the same as high street tyre and exhaust centres, they will examine your exhaust and recommend a new part, instead of a repair, because its how they make their money,
A council run Mot centre, doesn't profit from an MOT test so has no financial incentive to sell you services, parts that are not needed at the time of the mot.

a car like everything else wears out with every mile you drive, try and have a separate account to save for repairs and renewals, I allow 10p a mile so that when something needs fixing the money is there, also to buy my next car, I realise its hard, but has to be done |

I'm confused they either test or don't test for mot, and if they if you car fails, they must fail it does not matter that they don't do repairs |
