The exercise is going to be hard but the reduction in calories is going to be a killer
How do other people cope with suddenly cutting their food by almost half? |

I've had to cut my calorie intake to 1000 a day to shrink my liver. First 3 days was a killer but been doing it nearly 2=weeks and settled unto it. Only cause I can't have my op if it hasn't shrunk enough |

Assuming that your calorie intake was circa 2000 calories per day to begin with, if you're increasing your exercise rate and calorie burn why would you need to drastically cut your calorie intake - unless your looking for crash weight loss? |

My personal trainer wants me eating around 1300-1350 a day with 4 hard training sessions a week plus 5 to 10 mins extra training at home every day.
Someone said 1350 is quite a lot so i just need to work out what that actually is, which my PT will hopefully help with
Im also diabetic so need to "snack" between meals or i start feeling a bit sick when my sugars go all over the place |

How many calories has he told you to have per day? I go to weight watchers so count points not calories. I bulk my meals up with salads and veg and snack on fruit - although I know they have calories. Well done and good luck |

When I started working out I just tried to eat smaller portions (as opposed to counting calories). The weight fell off quite rapidly.
The most amazing part is seeing your body change & muscle take shape.
Best of luck

Have you seen your Doctor about this?
Your Personal Trainer should have advised about your nutritional requirements vis a vis exercise, far more complicated than just calories.

"What kinda things do you eat on 1000?"
Thing is your PT should be doing your meal plan tailored to your workouts and vice-versa.
Otherwise it's defunct.

He said he would start tailoring a plan to me so im hoping it will be a bit of everything exercise and food help
I lost 3 stone last year by myself, by exercise and reducing my food and cutting the crap. This is going to be harder |

First of all, check with your doctor. Unless your PT is a trained nutritionist its best to get medical advice pre-diet.
Next, drink lots of water. Half the time you think you're hungry, you're actually thirsty. It stops me from being hungry mid morning.
Cut down on carbs. Have a carby breakfast like porridge or toast, then the rest of the day should be spent on proteins.
Good snacks are cherries, cheese sticks, nuts and seeds etc.
Buy a smaller plate. Our plates have increased in size over the last few decades and we eat about 50% more than we used to.
If you drink it, cut out diet soda. It's bad for you, bad for your diet, and bad for your diabetes (artificial sweeteners make your body think its getting sugar, so making insulin levels fluctuate).
Think that's it for now. |

I would suggest to stay away from processed foods because of the hidden sugars, carbs, salt etc.
Eat fresh whenever possible. I agree with what others say. If you are only eating 1350 a day and exercising on top that really isn't a lot for your body to use on just living!!
Did your trainer explain how the exercise takes off some of the calories you eat?
Myfitnesspal is a good app to use for logging food and for logging any exercise you do to help you track your calorie intake each day. |

That was exactly my thought. Particularly as from another post it doesn't appear they are giving dietery advice.
What are your PT's credentials? Do they know about weightloss? Or is he just a one dimensional gym bunny who's training advice will be restricted by their knowledge. |

Thats what ive been using today so im going to ask him about the way exercise boosts my cals on there. But i think he really wants me just eating 1350 only regardless of what i do.
I have my next session on thursday, but have a couple of gym classes in between |

This time last year I was nearly 17 stone. By daily (fairly hard exercise ) and cutting out biscuits - I am now down to 13 stone.
the secret of weight loss is to burn more calories than you consume - then you see the difference - initially I lost about 1Kg per week |

Basic metabolic rate isn't 2000 cals for everyone. I am 5'10 and pretty big build and still need to eat 1500 to lose weight, so its not unlikely that a smaller woman would be asked to eat 1350, especially at the beginning to give your metabolism a good kick. The concern would be the diabetes, which is why a quick visit to the doctor would be good. |

He is qualified, i think i will have to wait and see what program he puts together. Ive watched him train others for a while and he is good. If its not enough food i will tell him and it will have to be adjusted.
The hard part will be cutting out the sugars. Will go to marks and spencer tomorrow to stock up on fruits and such and lots of bottled water
Much nicer than asda ones and i HATE tap water |

Your body needs a base rate to be able to just ait and breathe so I'd imagine you need to eatmore but eexercise down to that.
You mentioned you are diabetic I'd so I would stay away from carbohydrate heavy foods as they spike your levels etc.
I dropped 2.5 points at my last check up by cutting out carbs. I have worked out that I need some or I start feeling sick as I go into ketosis bit I usually have these at breakfast. |

Be careful of fruits as they are very high in sugars. Probably teaching you to suck eggs I know lol
Berries are the best fruits for diabetics. Particularly blueberries.
Olives are a good snack as they are very low carb. As are picked onions etc |

Thats what he was working out this morning. It was going to be 1300 to start with but i think i will go see my diabetic nurse and run everything past her once i have my plan.
Thank you all for your advice |

I love pickled onions so thats a good one. And baby tomatos, but your right, some fruit is super high in sugar. Its going to be a juggling act i think
Ive never liked olives but maybe its worth another try |

Just don't get miserable thinking about food. Reducing carbs and sugary foods should help without too much heartache. Calories counting can actually make you hungrier!
Eggs are good by the way. 100 cals per egg, and very good for you. |

Weight loss should be done slowly but surely. Your PT should take the calories you require to live (based on age and weight usually) add the calories you will burn during exercise. Add up the entire weeks worth. Divide this by 7 to get a daily calorie intake. It takes approx 3500 cals to burn 1/b of body fat. That is a 500cal deficit per day. Rule of thumb is that 2lb per week loss is the max you want to lose so that puts you at 1000cal deficit each day. So I'd say your PT has put you at the more extreme end of this scale but if you're only burning max of 600cals in your gym sessions it doesn't take things too far.
As others have said ideally your PT should provide you with a diet plan. It is important to stay hydrated and if and when you feel peckish try and snack on something high protein like biltong or 25grams of nuts or some low fat cottage cheese. You will require some carbs but to aid fat burning keep them minimised but not totally stopped.
I've just seen you are diabetic too. A healthy life style / eating regime will in the end give great benefits but if you are insulin dependant then you might have to watch out how quickly you adjust things. I'm sure being a PT though he'll know what to do if you did hypo whilst exercising, which fingers crossed you wont. Get on your PTs case! |

does sound extreme I would say 1000 would be best.
I think 600 is just for a quick fix for a week or 2 but not healthy |

"Well 4 weeks in and ive lost 7.1kg or about 15lbs and im rather pleased with myself! :D"
That's more like 18lbs
(7*2.5 and a bit)
Good work
Your instructor sounds like he's worth every penny.
Time to mix it up a bit |

1kg = 2.2lbs, so 7 kg is about 15lbs.
Good going OP |

if you exercise more than usual you will need to keep your intake reasonably high or you will get tired and weak, then loose interest and stop exercising, also when you exercise you will bulk up on muscle so don't be disappointed if sometimes you don't seem to loose as much some weeks, as muscle is heavier than fat, its hard and you will need will power , but the rewards are well worth it |

Well done on kick starting. One think I will say is (and i hate to ooooooze cheese) but 'don't count calories.... make calories count'.
Ensure that your food intake on off days isn't as high as it is on the days that you're working out and eat well.
get a good breakfast in you
take a bottle of water with you everywhere. I have a little 330ml bottle that i'm constantly filling up. much better than trying to lug around a 500ml, 750ml or 1l bottle everywhere
don't fret about snacking.
eat until your content, not until you're full.
All the best |

I've dieted on multiple occasions over the years and always found them incredibly hard, personally I much prefer fasting these days as means of keeping my fat in check, but its not for everyone. |
