Ok - apparently sliced bread was invented in 1928 - which means bakers were a pretty dumb lot for a long time.

Mrs Beetons Cookbook has jam recipes in, and she is definitely pre-1930. I think lemon curd might be too. Peanut butter was invented by the Aztecs.
