Yesterday I bent down to pick up some shoes , and ouch - pain in my lower back.
Now I don't do this kind of thing well ... I can't sit still
Anyway I don't think its a bad pull as after I have stood up and walked a bit the stiffness eases but I can't bend.
What I want to know from you experts is ... Is walking around every hour a good thing or can it do more damage ?

From Carl. When you pull your back like that it's screaming to be moved. Years ago The advice was lay flat for weeks on end. Keep it moving, hot baths, gentle movements but not anything that causes pain and no lifting for a while. X |

When my back goes, any position that is comfortable is the best one and I have been in many strange one's (no comments please)
You will probably find the more support behind your back the better, so make sure you have good firm cushion's , this will make it easier for you to get up and down without doing more damage x |

I did it for 20 mins last night and this morning
To be honest I should have iced it straight away. Too late now its been 24 hours. I have a heat patch on now anyway.
Thanks for the advice |

Move around if you can....but be careful!!
If something hurts, stop, it's your body's way of telling you not to do it!
I used to have terrible problems with my back and neck, regular swimming helps, hardly ever get a stiff back these days |

Best advice is to see your GP if you can't wait till they open phone the out of hours service and if they think you need to see a doctor they will refere you to a badger clinic (don't wory it's not a vet) in future I would suggest getting a gym ball and using it to stretch on, sit and watch tv on (I don't mean soxy lol) it gives your back muscles strength and you can use it for naughty time too lol and their only a fiver |

When I stiffen up, I normally find pulling it helps enormously.
Hope I've been some help "

Don't sit on the cushion use it as a lumber support behind your back. And gentle movements are best and as others have said avoid any lifting. Another thing to try when it's a bit better is laying on your back knees bent with your feet flat on the ground. Then whilst keeping your hips on the floor gently move your knees, still together, to either side. It will help loosen the muscle. |
