"I think potable water is far more important than a fuel source that isn't really needed."
Unfortunately they haven't come up with a system yet where you can run cars, buses and trucks on water....or heat homes.

BMW and shell had a working prototype engine in a car about 5 years ago but would not make it as its costs to much. |

It's a nonsense, it has been proved that the base energy source needed to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen, and then combine them to create any form of fuel exceeds the energy generated by the said engine it powers.

Not widespread but geothermal energy is heating homes in some countries ie Iceland...it's a vast untapped energy source |

Yep. You can get ground source hear pumps here to run under floor heating systems but they are expensive. The governments renewable incentive can help over time but they learnt their lesson from the solar feed in tariff so you won't see such good returns lol |

"What about just hydrogen?
Hydrogen is already used to power vehicles, but because it isn't a natural energy source as such it still requires other energy sources to produce it.
I noticed some bus routes are running off hydrogen up in town, part of a trial to see which is most effective and the winner as such is put into service
Taxis next please

Tidal power used to disassociate water and you have your Hydrogen and Oxygen. Zero carbon footprint and totally clean transportable fuel. Very simple and you are not depending on the wind. Just gravity, and that isn't going to go anywhere. |

Get ready for 2020 people when all Combi boilers are banned unless they come up with a way to make them efficient for water heating..
Ground source and air source are the future, communal heating is making a comeback

how does this work? I asume you mean the electricity they make from tidal power can be used to electrolyse water into oxygen and hydrogen? |

you need to have a look at a company called ACTA, they are involved in making this technology. |

The biggest problem with Hydrogen isn't it's production so much as it's prohibitive cost in manufacturing fuel cells, it will never be seen as a realistic alternative to petrol or diesel engine cars in our lifetime.
If anything Electric powered cars are more feasible on a mass produced basis, but even they have major drawbacks. |

Tidal power is THE only way forward. Build a barrage from Cardiff out to Weston. With the guaranteed tides, you get electricity that is FOC. Ok, so you have the initial costs of construction, and ongoing maintenance, but you could also put a road on the top, and run trains over it too. And the resulting lake contained behind it would give us a truly world-class opportunity for all kinds of watersports (the sporty kind ).
All it requires is someone with the balls and political clout to take it forward, but then it seems that we don't have people like Brunel in this country any more. HR |

have you checked out the company? it will happen sooner rather than later with the military interested. if you could fill up with water and have an electrical cell convert it to hydrgen fuel, you would not need to take the fuel with you just fill up with ubiquitous water. |

Combine the best of both, build the nuclear power station in the tidal estuary. What could go wrong?"

Brian Wilson made a valid point on Radio 4 a few mins ago.
It doesn't matter what you want to build wherever you want to build it - SOMEBODY will object and campaign against it.
He pointed to hydro electric schemes in Scotland. Possibly the best thing that ever happened to renewables but would you get agreement to build them now? |

Get them to frack them fill it with sea water. Surely it kills two birds with one stone reduces sea levels due to global warming and ice caps melting and gives us fuel too |

Few of the protesters, including Vivienne Westwood, at Balcombe and elsewhere look to be in immediate danger of fuel poverty.
It's all too easy for those who don't have to worry about keeping warm over the winter to maintain that the nation ought not harvest cheap fuel wherever it can be found. |
