Grey Mullet

Bought a whole grey mullet last week and as it was the use by date put it in the freezer.

Today I defrosted it and read some information to get an idea about the fish and best way to cook it. Apparently it's a 'bottom feeder' (no jokes please) and can taste a little muddy. Anyway I topped and tailed it and then gutted it and I can see why it was described as tasting muddy. So it's been cleaned and baking in the oven...can't wait to taste.

Anybody tried this fish?

Nope. And by the sounds of it I don't think I'll bother!

I don't think you'd have liked to have been present when I was wielding the knife

Gorgeous fish!! Use a little lime, ginger and chilli on top, wrap in grease proof and pop in oven - streams in its own juices ( haven't we all!) and as tender as a tender thing!

I was surprised how tender and tasty it was after the information I read and preparing it.

I had it baked in olive oil with a light seasoning. I'll take your advice as the lime chilli ginger combination sounds delicious

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

We love grey mullet in a fish stew, a curry or just fried. It's very versatile and always tasty.
