To be honest, since its been banned in public places I don't really notice smokers anymore, except for that odd group of people huddled in bus shelters outside offices. |

I smoked for years, gave up for 3 years, missed it loads, started up again.
Then I fell pregnant. Gave up straight away and haven't smoked since that's in nearly 3&1/2 years. Don't miss it at all now. The expense, the smell, when my ex comes round to collect our boy and he's just had a fag he bloody stinks! |

I assume most people started smoking due to whoever they were socialising with or if starting at a very young age to look 'cool' at the time. Then you get hooked and it's difficult to stop.
Sad to say I never was a cool kid but I never started smoking so have never had to go through the hell of stopping either. I am glad that it has been banned in public places. I used to hate coming home after a night out absolutely stinking of smoke. |

I smoke and am not ashamed of it,it a lifestyles choice,i dont hide it here,up to people if meet me or not,i am a lepper to some like this thread,i dont have probs with people who i meet,they respect i mite pop out for a cig,i respect there homes ect x I have kinky smoking pics on my pro and that were a nonsmoker lol x I wouldnt start a nagging thread abt dangers of drinking alcohol Either because i dont personally like it x |

Personally I have never tried it or will never. Can understand its a addiction fair enough but is it really that much of one that I see office staff having to come out of a block in snow/rain to have one!!!
theres no benefits from smoking really or the cons against it massively out do the pros! |

Yes it is that much of an addiction. Studies have been done to show that it is more addictive than cocaine or heroin!
It is because you've never tried it that you won't understand. That's why smoking cessation counsellor and people that lead weight loss groups, AA meetings etc are usually people who have been in the situation and can empathise with people about it. |

I like to smoke, there are so may things I have given up or cut down on, I've been clean of drugs () for 15 years, ended my 8 pint per night drinking habit 9 years ago now only drink probably every 2-3 months, but fags are still my vice of choice and I'm not saying I couldn't give up I'm not saying I could but I don't give everyone a lecture about the dangers of binge drinking, I leave them to it |

Perhaps a tad ironic that 20 or 30 years ago you'd be treated like leper if you didn't smoke!
Apparently smoking is clinically addictive. The receptors in the brain that crave nicotine multiply when fed with nicotine, with increased smoking so the craving increases. The more a person smokes, the longer a person smokes, the more difficult be becomes to quit... assuming they might want to that is.
It so VERY easy to shout the odds if you've never smoked. It's also very easy to shout the odds if you've been successful in quitting smoking.
Many people are seriously addicted to nicotine but I doubt you'll find one person who wanted to be addicted to it, in the same context I doubt you'll find one person who wanted to become an alcoholic!
In recent years smoking has taken a serious hammering, no doubt in time it will become extinct altogether, good job to I say, in spite of the fact that I am a nicotine addict...
So when will we see and end to alcohol? After all, its pointless, it does not do anyone any good etc. etc.

I smoke and enjoy it but respect non smokers opinions and don't smoke when I'm with my grandchildren but anybody tries to preach to me and they're likely to get a wallop |
