are you modest or a show off

Had a job interview today, and was told that I'm a very modest person, and actually undervalue myself and achievements. This was surprising as I only see the thing I did as doing my job.

So would you say you are modest or a shout about it type of person?

I'd say modest but a few times colleagues in jobs have tried to belittle me so I have shot off my credentials at them just to shut them up.

Modest in work. I give the credit to the kids and take none myself. I get embarrassed if I get the plaudits

A bit of both I think - depending on the circumstances and who I'm interacting with.

Sometimes it pays to be be more of one than the other - and as long as the balance is kept generally, I can't see that being a problem.

Oh fuck it - I'm awesome!!!

I try to be modest to a point. Don't want to be known as some sorta flashy attention seeker. Though if I do wind up doing something extraordinary or figure out a rather difficult situation then yeah, I'm like "guess what I just did!"

I'm a private person and quite modest but if story's about me are true then they must be believed, I will leave the truth. To judge without knowing someone is not a true reflection of that person you don't actually know......

I had this conversation with my one over one boss recently.

Although I do not have managerial responsibilities and do not have a fancy title, I am respected by my colleagues for my competency, knowledge and experiences, and is dependable, especially when there is a crisis to deal with.

I have a very big ego in that I know I am very good at my job and have nothing to prove anymore, however, I do not shout about it.

Thanks all for the well wishes. Not even sure I want it yet as will mean a lot more travelling and more pressure. But we shall see.

I'm not sure how you could fit more travelling into your day! Think about the long and short term gains (and losses). Something made you apply.

As to the modesty question, one of my old employees once told me that people think I have a big ego and it's only when they get to know me that they realise it isn't big enough. He tells me that I should do more to sell myself.

On the travelling side of would be a national sales management job, so will be all over the place more. The main reason for the job application is to go through a process and gain experience, and hopefully progress my career.

My main concerns would be time away from evie and my son. So a tough one to call.

Career progression versus love and family is a tough one. No one has 'great at his job' on their gravestone though. Good luck.
