Would "wine" not help you to do so? |

I lost faith with Microshaft with Windows XP not because it was crap, I kind of like it and still have a working but should anything happen to it I'd have to go grovelling Microsoft for a new product key. At the time I got XP I was tinkering with lots of different hardware configurations on the two PC's I have. I didn't at the time know that every time you installed/re-installed windows it checked with Microsoft for previous installation configurations and if there where radical differences it would increase a counter relating to the product key. Needless to say I soon reached the limit and I needed an O/S I could install without limit so looked into Linux and have been using it since 2002/3
Linux is not without it's problems, as has been mentions games support is dire also support for new hardware often lags behind that for Windows as manufacturers only normally supply drivers for Windows and Mac. Drivers for Linux are developed once the Linux community gets it's hands on the new hardware. Early versions where very much 'get your hands dirty' unlike windows but that has improved and less technical knowledge is required to configure a Linux system. It's image as a geek's O/S hasn't helped.
Where Linux does excel over Windows is it gets the best out of older hardware. A typical PC with Linux installed will out perform the same PC running Windows.
There are plenty forums to help with Linux problems, and being from Yorkshire I just love open source software and not having to open my wallet.
A solution for the gamers and those wanting to be able to use Windows as well as Linux is have a dual boot system then you can have the best of both. |
