"...... or do these experiences make you the person you are? "
sometimes I wish there was a rewind button, just so I could redo things, but I wouldn't delete anything, as I don't think I would be the same person I am today. J xx |

A lot of them have become the foundation of maturity for me. But, I wouldn't live with depression if I didnt know half the things I did. So if you got that delete button, I'd like to use it please lol |

But surely simply deleting the bad memories would not correct their cause and effect so you would be left with an unexplainable hollow in your life that would torture you to the grave…

That all depends what I managed to forget. I think i could do with forgetting more despicable people from my past and that wouldnt change me, just give me less of a mental burden.
I might become a bit more naive maybe but when I look around, I'm astounded by the amount of people that have so much good in their lives while being none the wiser about the shit that goes on right outside their door or even behind their backs.
It's the untypical horrors that I learned to live with that I'd keep and try to make positive things out of. |

They say you learn from your mistakes* so I believe all experiences define us, we can't untangle the bad ones and remove them for fear of losing our very essence.

"Yes if I get the time back...
But generally mistakes keep repeating if you don't learn or adjust..."
That's very true, and William Gibson once said "before you diagnose yourself with depression, make sure you're not just surrounded by arseholes!"
If you're intelligent and mature enough, you don't tend to repeat mistakes unless you want to and the problem is increasingly that more people are wilfully stupid when somebody elses life is in their hands.
Others have been my downfall the majority of the time and yet I refuse to become a control freak because of it. I'd be a worse person if I assumed control over the lives of others just to protect my own.
And like my counsellor said, the only aim of burying the hatchet is forgetting where you buried it and why you needed it. However, some things need to be forgotten and physically and mentally cannot, even when they're dangerous for your health.
You dont always come back stronger, you just learn to replace what you lost with something better, and that isnt possible for everybody. |

... ... ... well apart from that time then! Tut!
I'm sure other time travellers' companions don't point out their every error like you do! Haaaarumph! |

Yes, because life's too short to be dwelling on bad memories... that said, I don't class those 'bad' memories that are life lessons as bad so they wouldn't be deleted (which should result in no change to my personality anyway). |

Hell no, even though I disagree what didn't kill to makes you stronger. I wouldn't be the person I am today without those experiences and I certainly wouldn't want to forget them an become complacent enough to do it again |
