folkestone

There is a tv show coming up about One direction and their obsessive fans - one gets upset if they miss a tweet by the group.

I can possibly understand teenage girls going over the top with their boy bands/singers, but ive always found it strange that adults can get so obsessive about football/tv shows/singers.

I once shared a flight from Dublin to Donegal on a plane full of sing-a-long elderly ladies whose passion for Daniel O'Donnell had completely passed the border of becoming obsessive and entered the realms of worshipping the man like a God……

But it was good fun though and they did share their tea and sandwiches with the other passengers....

I certainly don't understand the obsession with sports teams. Having witnessed people I work with get angry, difficult and even cry when their football team loses I think it's unhealthy.

I understand things like tv shows which draw you in with narrative and are designed to make you invest in characters emotionally. But most teams these days are comprised of men who are there because they are paid well. If they get a better offer they are off. How that sort of behaviour engenders loyalty from fans I dont know.

You might as well be supporting middle management at Megacorp plc.

I just remembered about a guy I worked with on the rigs …..

This bloke was what you’d affectionately describe as the sort of rough-toughie type fella you’d not want to cross-words with fear he physically ripped your head off and shit down you neck,,,,

But at the start of every offshore trip he’s bedeck his cabin out with American wrestling posters, curtains and bed linen proclaiming his admiration for Hulk Hogan …

The thing is you could say exactly the same thing about tv as soaps.

Don't get me wrong neither works for me

I knew a girl in one of the popular groups back in high school that started cutting on herself because her friend didn't have room in dad's car to take her to see Backstreet Boys.
