I done french for 7 yrs , know some turkish and italian and had a go at learning russian.

these days the only time i use any is when the french market is in town

Very rudimentary French and Spanish and slightly more in a couple of African languages.

I'd love to learn one properly - English tends to get in the way though as it's so widely spoken.

I lived and worked in Mallorca for a few years so can get by in Spanish...however I moved to wales from Manchester and just can't get my head around the welsh language!!

Need to know basis

I speak French fluently - it may seems obvious but lots of my compatriots are still struggling with it. Then I hated English till I had the most amazing teacher (he was hot...and English - not an impossible mix). In third came Spanish (I leanrt Flamenco and hated bull fights), then I changed school and all they offered was Russian...so Priviet Tovaritch...International translation studies at Uni gave me the 'great' opportunity to learn German...Never liked it but still spent a whole year in Germany tasting and liking the locals.

Recent events have given me the opportunity to learn basic Arabic, Italian and Japanese.

Learning languages has given me an opportunity to understand other cultures, how people interact with each other, their sense of humour, how the love, how the hate, how they live! It also somehow robbed me of my own identity as a French citizen but opened my mind and heart to the world.
