I don't think you're being picky at all, the English language is wonderful and it isn't that hard to use it properly! Z

I text using long hand, as I am too old to learn another language!

Am i being really picky here or does anyone else find text talk by someone in their 40's totally ridiculous?? Sounds like midlife crisis or little mummies boy, personally i hate both though what was worse was that he thought he knew me well enough to call me lise, the ultimate in bad manners

Usually do the long hand, but do use a smattering of text speak, depending who I'm sending the text too!

If we get mail with text spellings, we delete it! If people can't be arsed to write/type properly then what other short cuts do they make?

Text speak on a phone is OK as long as it is limited to a few words.. Anywhere else and we don't read!

A world of my own

"text speak gets on my nerves full stop! "

Agree, its one of my pet hates, its ok to shorten long words when sending a text message but 9 times out of ten I still do longhand. My daughters texts are totally alien to me, can't inderstand a word so end up ringing her to see what it says

Up North :-)

Nothing wrong with text speech on a phone but its not what i'd use on a laptop as i have a full keyboard and don't have to abbreviate. Well if you can its curious to use all the keys when you can isn't it?

I sometimes give up and ask them what the hell they are on about in a call

I despise 'txtspek' with a passion!

I always text in English and demand others do the same - i delete without reading if i receive one.

I will not entertain a message from a fab member who writes to me in shorthand, i find it insulting.

Might be all high & mighty of me but to my mind, if you cannot create a coherent message with a keyboard then your conversational skills are going to be somewhat limited as well!

I never use text talk, not even when sending a text.

My texts are always written in Queens English, with spelling and punctuation done to the best of my ability.

I'm 100% with you on this!!

It drives me nuts when people use text-speak when they have a fully functioning keyboard!! My typing might not be amazing but I know what I'm trying to say!! I don't think its high and mighty of anyone to insist on good grammer. I do like a wee smiley now and again (and thats not slang! lol!).

I text long-hand as well, using commas and full stops properly. Jesus, I sound like an old English teacher! Sit up stright! Pull that short skirt down! Spit out your chewing gum!!
