"could someone explain the problem to me......as i have a toyota RAV 4....do i need to worry?......E x" there should be a web site with advice somewhere with the models that are affected - don't think the rav4 was one tho. Z
"But the thing that puzzles me is this ......... I know if the throttle gets stuck down it must scare you shitless, but if it does happen, why do drivers not turn the fuckin ignition off or pull the God damned thing out of gear ? Turning off the ignition will not engage the steering lock unless you withdraw the key, and yes if you pull it out of gear the engine will rev it's balls off and probably blow up, but is that not a better option than driving along at 120mph and killing yourself ? A guy in the States, sadly died along with all his family because of an alledgedly sticking throttle pedal, but he (and according to the report I read the 911 call did come from the driver of the vehicle - an off duty California Highway Patrolman) was able to make a call to 911 to report the situation, so if he had the presence of mind to do that, why didn't he turn the bloody engine off instead of wasting his time making phone calls - ?" Turning the ignition off can be dangerous as many cars have power assisted steering and brakes so if you turn it off disaster. Put it in neutral if you can get it to disengage. PR man's nightmare though this is for then.

I've driven Toyotas for the last 10-11 years or so and did actually have the throttle jam open when it was fully depressed on time. It was proper brown trouser time because at the time you do panic and the most obvious of actions simply go out of the window. I was doing, erm, quite a rate of knots lol and still accelerating! After a second or two I realised the pedal was caught under a piece of trim that had come adrift and kicked it back into place

"All cars have to be able to steer and brake with the engine off ( at the moment anyhow ) . its just harder work , lol . fair play to Toyota for recalling their cars , most manufacturers dont bother unless their not given a choice .. " True but you want to try and pull a landcruser up without power breaks. Dam hard work, and steering through traffic without power steering isn't fun. It can be done but i wouldn't advise it
"could someone explain the problem to me......as i have a toyota RAV 4....do i need to worry?......E x" Yes possibly, the models affected in the UK are the Aygo, Yaris, Auris, Corolla, Verso, Avensis and RAV4 from February 2005 ONWARDS. Dodgy throttle cables manufactured in China fitted to these vehicles are the potential problem, more so on those with high mileage. Hope this helps you x

It can be done but i wouldn't advise it " There is, however, a big difference between navigating your way around town with failed PAS/servo brakes and bringing the vehicle to a stop in an emergency situation. Suffice to say, at speed, PAS without the assistance is not really any more difficult to manage. True, without servo assistance the braking distance will be increased, but you will still stop. Eventually lol.
"A Toyota " do they make hoovers?????
