The land of grey peas and bacon

Make some homemade bean burgers and add a bit of spice to them...cook them on a disposable BBQ that you are not using for the meat...make lots of sides that they and everyone can have...

If they eat fish, and hopefully like fish, then just wrap some salmon or a tuna steak in foil and chuck it on the BBQ for them. It won't get contaminated that way.

Then vegetable skewers etc to go with them

Nobody cooks slowly on a barbie.

Torch the outside a quickly as possible and leave the inside raw.

Not wise with corn on the cob.

Vegetable kebabs using mushroom, peppers, courgettes, aubergine and onions, brush with a marinade during cooking made of lemon juice, sugar, chopped garlic and chilli to taste, salt and pepper.

The same marinade can be used on chunks of corn or Haloumi cheese.

Polenta cut thickly grill nicely on the BBQ, again brush with the same marinade during cooking.

Instead of veggie burgers, try grilling big field mushrooms, again brush with marinade during cooking.

Apart from the above, how about providing veggie side dishes such as pasta salad, cous cous salad, potato salad, grated carrots with rasins in a dressing made out of orange juice olive oil, coleslaw etc.?

I always do some veggies at a BBQ. Flat mushrooms soaked in garlic oil, pepper halves, veggie kebabs, cooked new potatoes thrown on the Barbie are lovely. Lots of veggie sides like couscous etc. And a few different cheeses that cam be melted on the veg.

I buy the frozen corn on the cob as its already cooked, just needs charring.

another idea is fresh crusty bread with served with a baked camembert. Wrap the cheese in 2 layers of foil after doing a splash of white wine on top stud it with garlic and rosemary wrap then bake on bbq for about 7 -10 minutes till its molten and gooey in the middle just pull back foil and let people dip in with bread or veggies

Good grief!

I'm veggie n been n held loads of bbq's

Linda McCartney sausages nicest (on offer in lidl at mo)

Quorn : burgers, fillets, peppered steaks etc work well on a BBQ

Halloumi cheese in cubes on skewers with veggies like: pepper, courgette, mushroom, baby tomatoes goes down a bomb with meat eaters too!

Plenty of salad, potato salad, coleslaw, pickles for everyone.

Sweet potatoe wedges cooked on skewers are AMAZING (BBQ equivalent of chips)

Sweet stuff: bananas in brown sugar cooked in skin, core apples n fill core with brown sugar n cinnamon wrap in foil n cooked are both amazing

Hth

How about a Monster Mushroom Burger.

Ingredients

4 large portobello mushrooms caps, wiped clean

3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper

1/2 cup plain low-fat Greek-style yoghurt

1 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary

1 lime, zested and juiced

4 large slices whole-grain rustic bread, each cut in half

1 cup baby rocket

1 large tomato, cut into 8 slices

1 red onion, thinly sliced

1/2 cup roasted red pepper strips, drained

Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Place the mushrooms in a baking dish or pie plate. Whisk together the vinegar, oil, salt and pepper until blended. Brush the mushrooms with the vinegar mixture; let stand for up to 15 minutes. Place the mushrooms on the grill rack and grill until tender, 4 to 6 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate.

Meanwhile, combine the yoghurt, rosemary and zest and juice of the lime in a small bowl until blended. Brush the bread slices with the yoghurt mixture. Layer half the slices with the mushrooms, rocket, tomatoes, onions and red pepper strips. Top with the remaining bread slices .

my top tip is don't cook the veggy food after you have cooked the meat

im a veggy and i've been to a few BBQs where people have put the veggy food on the BBQ after taking meat off and I've had to decline eating it

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

Garlic mushrooms in foil. Corn on the cob. Also you could probably do some potatoes on the bbq too. Might be worth googling.

For the Veggi stuff, knock up a second BBQ.

Get a big disposable lasagne tray (the foil type) or a turkey roaster and put a wire cooling rackover the top of it. Put coals in it as you would normally, or for a more even cooking heat, use Heat Beads.

Mackerel's well tasty if you're making it fishy. Don't wrap in foil but place over BBQ grill and make a few holes in it.

courgettes, sliced in half and brushed with olive oil. if you have it use a flavoured oil or put some herbs and things like chillies in a jar of oil for a couple of days to make some yourself.

My daughters are vegetarian and we have loads of bbqs, I wash the grill every time I use it and have a seperate rack to cook their stuff on.

I make veg kebabs, corn in the cob ect but quorn and supermarkets do some fantastic meat free product which are suitable to bbq.

I did a BBQ last night and had one vegetarian woman present. For her, I did some kebab type skewers with mushrooms, peppers, haloumi cheese and onions with a marinade. 10 minutes and your done. It went down well too! (Unfortunately, she didn't!)

blanch some veg then make a bread dough or use pizza dough seal the veg in the dough wrap in greased foil then put on bbq , when its cooked you can break it open for some nice veg and the bread takes on the juices , works for tender meat too xx most i have done a bbq for was 2000 with 6 chefs

They are not too difficult, may need to brush them with a bit of olive oil to keep them moist while cooking

If you have/want to make Pizza dough, substitute Pitta breads for the Pizza bases.

If you want a fast Pizza dough base, try this two ingredient version:-

You just combine one cup of the flour with one cup of Greek yogurt, knead the dough for 5-8 minutes, and you're set.

Immediately after that you can add your sauce, cheese, and toppings for a pizza you can bake fresh in the oven.

If you make your own mopping sauce, mix it with a little oil and bbq a few corn cobs, basting them as you turn them. That's delicious even for meat eaters.

Also try making a Thai salad and adding some mozzarella cubes instead of beef

Its my choice not to eat meat, but my son does and I understand humans are omnivorves.

It is just my choice

Wrap in foil with butter or vegetable spread and put on the BBQ. They cook beautifully.

If you know what you are doing you only have charcoal on the front half or one side that way you can slow cooking down by putting things on the other side.

Google Stephen Reichlen - he is a BBQ GOD!!

Get a couple of portabello mushrooms, marinate them with some balsamic vinegar, a tiny bit of soy sauce and a bit of olive oil. let them marinate atleast 30 minutes prior to grilling. brush with left over marinade during grilling a few times. They are absolutely fantastic for even non veggies.
