Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
I saw this elsewhere but it made me laugh so I am sharing it:
As a rule of thumb, "WTF?" can be translated as "I am an idiot and I am basing my outrage on this incomplete and sensationalist news story".
How do you view WTF? and other online exclamations?

WTF! I have no visual previous nor conceptual understanding of what I have just seen/has just taken place. I have no way of responding other than to exclaim loudly so that those to whom I am audible begin to think that a disservice has been done to me and they wrongly focus their moralising tuts on a nearby genius who understands what I didn't. |

"WTF? - rarely used exclamation when I honestly cannot believe my eyes, whether I am seeing something amazing or reading something colossally stupid."

"I think it means that someone doesn't agree with the actions or words of someone else
IMHO
Is the H in IMHO honest or humble?
Ok who needs a smartarse lol.....
(laughing out loud/lots of love)

I thought my arse, smart or otherwise, was one of those admired features. |

In my view as a linguist, they are a unstoppable evolution of language and communication!

It means "fuck my life". Generally uttered by stroppy teenagers when they have a minor disappointment.
I reserve wtf?! for watching episodes of Dynamo: Magician Impossible |

I don't use wtf or pmsl or anything like that, I don't like them and I just don't speak in that way. I don't use lots of exclamation marks or use the terms 'end of' or fact either.
As for smilies I never use those to put points across either. I only ever use two smilies and they are or . I only use these as a way to end a post. Just leaving a post with a full stop doesn't look as nice. I put my point across with clear, concise wording. I have no need or desire to use anything else |

I liked that episode of "Modern Family" where the hipster Dad was trying to show how "cool" he was with the kids and explained the terms, concluding "WTF - Why the Face?"
I find WTF useful on mediums like Twitter where characters are limited. Also useful on profiles like Grindr where you're limited to 20 characters for a profile tag line and the idiots have just rejected my profile picture that's the same as the one here. My "tag line" now reads "Photo rejected. WTF?!"
Sometimes it's good to vent with a WTF. |
