London high street debuts pay with your picture technology
A high street in West London has become the first in Britain to embrace facial recognition payment technology. Shoppers on Richmond High Street can now make payments on their mobile phone and be recognised by their first name and picture.

As it's Rant Thursday I want to go slightly off topic but want to take issue with your post.
Why do you feel the need to put 'Discuss' at the end of your post?
Surely this is a Forum and it is the prime reason for discussion. The word is totally superfluous. Rant over.... |

The payment service, which have been operating a ‘pay by mobile’ system for two years, launched the new app for iOS, Windows OS and Android phones which let customers check in to pay. The app highlights nearby shops and restaurants that accept PayPal; the customer then checks in to the shop and pays by simply sliding a pin down in the app. Once a customer has checked in, their name and photo appears on the shop’s payment system, and when the customer agrees the amount to be paid, the cashier charges them by clicking on this image. The customer then gets an alert on their phone letting them know they’ve been charged, as well as a receipt. |

As is the right of the op to highlight she wants to discuss further.
Totally superfluous is same as saying very pregnant. You are or you're not. It's superfluous or it's not. You are quite entitled to say 'totally' to highlight your point but equally you can't criticise the op in same way. |

'Totally superfluous' and 'discuss further' could be argued to be similarities. You either discuss or not discuss. You can't discuss further....the very act of discussion negates the need for the word further.
My point still is that there is no need to put the word 'Discuss' at the end of an OP as that is what the point of a Forum is.. |

I don't think so. Not all posts are discussion posts. Perhaps the op just wanted to know more detail about the subject. In any case her post has now been highj jacked. I think you are overly pedantic |

As for the other two posters. Why not take your English language lessons private, rather than clutter up this thread. "

Because of a rude hijacker I don't think this thread is quite going the way the originator wanted it to. My opinion is that if the system works then why not. As long as the system is safe. Original topic, I'm also interested in other people's thoughts. |

I was trying to defend the right of the op and I am sorry.
As to op post, I think it's a idea. New technology could eventually get rid of need ofcash altogether |

"Is it a good way to combat fraud though ? X
There always will be fraudsters and I am sure in time they would work it out."
They'd have to invest in loads of those "mission impossible" style face masks!!
Surely not cost effective for your average, run of the mill fraudster?
And even harder if the person they're trying to defraud is the wrong sex!! That would require the addition of fake boobies too (or - in the interests of sexual quality - a few socks down their crotch and some tit tape!).
Definitely seems more trouble than its worth! |
