Sad git that I am....listening to Radio 4 just now and they are discussing beards.

It seems there is a resurgence in the number of men growing beards.

Speaking as someone who went all native and grew a beard before leaving MY island....do women actually find facial hair attractive in a man?

According to GQ, facial hair has been and gone as a fashion trend.

Fashion be damned - I often have a beard, albeit a short one. At the very least I have big sideburns keeps my face warm in winter too, wind really whips if I am clean shaven, I find.

If it suits the wearer bugger the starer..

I'm normally rocking at least stubble of some degree, but will always ask prior to a meet what preference is..

I should say that I have no problem with facial hair per say... Some suit it. I just don't want it near me!! Haha. I'm of the same opinion of really hairy chests etc too. I'm not face-ist

I often sport a beard, mostly because shaving is a pain in the ass. I always keep the sideburns, have done since I could grow them. I have noticed that sideburns are pretty rare nowadays, very few of my friends have them.

Notice that all the comments so far relate to the men having a beard. Surely some of the fellas have some thoughts about whether they prefer the smooth, stubbly or the "forrest gump after a 3 month trek" look

I've just had a social with a guy with a beard. He knows they aren't my thing but he is a lovely guy so it doesn't matter

Went native at New Year....the Americans insisted I resembled my passport Photo at Xmas so had to be clean shaven. Have decided to keep a beard in 2013 in protest.

It drives me to distraction and hate it....but I made a promise to myself....so it stays until I go away again in the New Year

I have really sensitive skin so the day after I've shaven my face is red and really sore, so I only ever shave when I have to when going out or something important otherwise I just have stubble and keep it trimmed with some clippers

Mine is nicely maintained and straight. Many prefer me with a beard.

...but theres nothing worse than a badly maintained beard. It has to be looked after.

Well maintained stubbly designer beard here... I've been told I look nicer with a little stubble...

I've also had women or couples on occasion who have said, if the beard went, they'd meet me..

...but I like my stubble, it's part of my identity and I feel comfy with it, so ill have to miss out on some of the sex I guess...

Beards are great, but not 'designer stubble' or the 'I only shave once a week look' - such men look scruffy and unhygienic.

We have had couples refuse to meet us because hubby has a beard. It is nicely trimmed and I love it. There is no way he would shave it off just for a meet and I wouldn't want him to.

I'm proud of mine...nicely shaped and receives many compliments.

As another person mentioned, I also look like a teenager without it and I'm 32!
