Are we having a slug epidemic? I can't remember growing up and having a slug sat next to my kettle or one on the kitchen tiles.

Be aware slugs and snails carry the deadly lung worm, so if u have cats and dogs, make sure their water bowl isn't left outside. and get them vaccinated against lungworm, my vet said its always fatal, but he is selling the vaccination,

I've got some slug traps that work great, bought them off ebay for about a tenner I think. Caught about 30 on the first night in each trap

The only downfall is you have to beer int he traps

just buy 20 plastic pint glasses from poundland, 1 inch of beer in each one and dig in around garden, and to protect pots smear some Vaseline around pots half way up. cheap and effective

"Are we having a slug epidemic? I can't remember growing up and having a slug sat next to my kettle or one on the kitchen tiles."

A woman I was serving in a shop once told me a slug tale.

She said she started noticing slug trails in the living room but it didn't bother her too much. Then they made it to the sofa and she still just ignored it. But when she spotted slug trails on the TV remote it was a step too far.

'They can come in my house, they can use my sofa, but if they start watching my TV they're pushing their luck! '

We had a plague of them last year...

This year hasn't been so bad. They like heat and moisture so there's nothing you can do but use traps as people have suggested or pellets. I use salt but have to re-do each time it rains...don't like other methods as i have pets they may affect.

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

I was told to put down slug pellets on Feb 14 as that was around the time they are mating. Yeah, I know - sounded like a wind up to me - Valentine's Day. But apparently it's true and an easy date to remember. Buy chocolates, flowers and slug pellets!

not far from iceland,,,,,, tescos is nearer though :-) (near leeds)

I don t use pellets anymore the poison remains in the slug and any friendly creature ( hedgehog, toad frog etc) that eats the slug gets poisoned as well,,

I try and have native flowers they must tadte different and the slugs tend to go and eat my neighbours rplants ( in slug terms) delicious delicacies) that are her dahlias hostas and others,
