Just ordered myself a Colnago Ace 105 as a little belated birthday present - full carbon road bike

Now on tenterhooks for the next couple of days waiting for it to turn up!

Stupid thing is, when it finally does arrive i won't be able to play on it as i'm signed up for a charity ride from Liverpool to Leeds along the canal and i won't be able to use it on that route!

not sure if the government scheme is still in place but if you buy it through work you get great advantages

don't think you can do it retrospectively though

My work hasn't signed up for that so no good to me i'm afraid - they took away the cark parking so no chance of being nice to cyclists!

No way would i take a nice carbon road bike to work, i have a cheap and fun singlespeed for commuting.

only takes less than 5 minutes for your work to sign up and still use your old bike for work who's to know.

Not sure where it's going to live as there are already 3 mountain bikes and a road hybrid in the kitchen plus my singlespeed in the garage!

At the risk of stating the obvious (and only 'cos someone on here managed to get their nicked)- buy a really good lock!

Don't worry - my bikes are NEVER out of my sight when i'm out and about and even then are locked.

I prefer to sit in the rain next to my bike outside the cafe than leave them unsighted even if they are locked up.

The old advert with the phrase, "ee, I were right about that saddle, though!" has popped into my head

I actually have a 130db air horn fitted to my commuter singlespeed so even the doziest driver cant fail to be aware when he cuts me up!

*Its not actually compulsory to have a bell fitted, only that new bikes come with one.

I have a bell on my hybrid but never use it, and when in the mountain bikes i find a polite "excuse me please" works far better when out on the hills

I've gone for a Brompton via Cycle2Work

£1000 works,out at £680

Secondhand Brommies don't go for less than that in this spec so it's future proofed!

Back of the net!

That's a good deal - you should do the Brompton Race at Oulton Park, you have to dress up to race so a nice 1920's flapper dress would look fantastic!

Doesn't look as cool as those muppet themed horns you can get in Halfords though

Awesome, very jealous, I'm not allowed anything that exotic. But I'm slowly getting back into cycling again.

Only bought it as ive sold a lot of reenactment kit and raised £1200 that way, I'm not rich enough to drop that sort of cash on a whim!

My most expensive bike is 10yrs old and my newest MTB is 3yrs old so i tend to buy and keep my bikes.
