Everywhere and nowhere baby

With the help of my GP, I'm trying to give up the ciggies. I'm taking tablets called 'Champix'. On second week of these. Starting to feel sick every time I have a puff.

Had anyone here had any experience of this medication, and did it work?

Thanks

Mrs Curvywelsh x

I tried Zyban years back. I was on it for 6 days and went blind (seriously). Doctors took me off them and my sight came back a few days later.

I quit using patches in the end.

Both tablets, Champix and Zyban "can " have some pretty dramatic side effects, but I believe that in the main they work for most people, trouble free....

Not for me....

Good luck....

Made me feel sick too, for about 2 hours after taking them, they also didn't put me off cigarettes but they did put me off alcohol..... Stopped taking them as soon as I realised this!!!

I've got 3 weeks worth of champix left but I keep forgetting to take the damn things now! 7 weeks off cigs again, had previously been off them for 3 years (champix again) started smoking 'odd' fag then more than the odd one, then one of my cats was run over and that was me back on them. No side effects other than lucid dreams for me last time, not so much this time. Best of luck!

I gave up fags using Champix 5 weeks ago but I stopped taking the tables 6 weeks in cuz they were making me drowsy and depressed. I knew id done it so thought what's the point taking them. Glad I listened to my gut.

Good luck babe.

Are you not supposed to stop smoking after 1 week on the champix?

Thank you all for the positive feedback. I really need to give up. Got chronic bronchitis so my gp says. Might get an e-cig. Worth a try as well as the champix.

You lovely people

Can't use e-cigs with Champix. Its either one or the other as Champix dampen downs your craving and adding Nicotine substitutes will counteract it.

"I quit using patches in the end.

I quit after two days using patches,

they were just to hard to light.

.

I tried zyban, after about a week I started getting weirder than normal dreams, and started getting quite depressed.

Although I know people they have worked for,so I suppose everyones reaction to them must be different.

Good luck.

Sorry for the delay...

I personally didn't use them, BUT....

When I was stopping, I was attending the "support" groups and a few people were talking about the dreams.

Also you are feeling sick because the Champix is stopping you brain getting the "reward" from the cig. Well according to the stop smoking people

I have one friend who gave up smoking with the aid of champix, apart from weird dreams she suffered no side effects, and she quite liked the dreams.

I have another friend that has switched to e-cigs and is evangelical about them!

Good luck!

My EX took Champix, gave him lucid dreams where i would find him doing very strange and frighening things.. I guess for it works, but I seriously think doctors need to look into a persons mental state before dishing them out cos the consequences can be devestating!!

For me, I'm going cold turkey, I haven't had a cigarette since sat nite. It's driving me crazy, but it's all about mind over matter!

Mrs H, gave up the cigs without patches, medication or any aid! So proud of her as its now nearly 6 months she's been off them!

Not that medication but when I gave up March 2010 I was advised to not use some products for personal health reasons and then had to go cold turkey, not had a fag since. If you want to you can do it.

Yeah, Champix and Zyban both alter brain chemistry and the way it reacts to nicotine. Hence why there can be some rather strange side effects. They do work for the majority of people but some of the side effects can, in rare cases, be very scary and serious.

I didn't get any issues with Zyban but was pushed by people not to take them any more due to the side effects including people dying

"Are you not supposed to stop smoking after 1 week on the champix?"

If they work the same way as Zyban not necessarily as they lessen the desire to want a cigarette so it may be longer

Everywhere and nowhere baby

My cravings have lessened and when I do have a ciggie I don't enjoy it. As for the dreams, they have become more vivid, got eaten by a sheep in one last night!! Punishment for my country men's sheep shagging exploits I expect hehe. Got to go back for next course on Friday but hopefully I won't be in them for long.

Thanks again for your replies

We both 7 days smoke free using e cigs.

I have tried that & Zyban, both had awful reactions to!

Tried patches, gums, inhalators..everything on the market.

I think it comes down to if you have willpower and actually want to quit.

Good luck to you

I have used Champix this time - stayed on them for the first 5 weeks then stopped because they were making me feel nauseous. I haven't had a ciggie for 6 weeks now though and don't even want one, so I think the tabs have worked for me

Good luck with your attempt at quitting
