Doreen Lawrence (mother of Stephen - murdered in 1993) is to become a Labour Peer. I reckon there are one or two senior police officers who will be less than comfortable with her being in the House of Lords. |

No doubt the intelligence, drive and diplomacy Doreen Lawrence has shown over the years more than qualifies her to be a Baroness if that's what she really wants.
However my jaded cynical mind does wonder about the motives at work to have actually made it happen. |

Ok! You win! I admit it! She is black and female and therefore incapable of being of any use to anyone"
You may be missing the point.
Yes, she's black and female and her son was murdered.
That, sadly, doesn't make her unique in the UK today. |

Doreen Lawrence may be just another statistic, nevertheless she is certainly unique as an individual. Over the last twenty years she has shown intelligence, has been articulate and has proved to be a very determined and competent negotiator. All this in the face of a continuing official, but covert, campaign to discredit her, her family and those who have shown any indication of readiness to support the case. |

First she is not a lord, she will be a baroness. Some in the upper house are looking forward to a lady that punches above her weight taking some of them on. Though everything she has gone though she has shown grace, composure and charm, alot in Westminister could learn alot from the lady. I sincerely hope it makes her happy and she continues to help make a difference. |
