"In fairness, we (the UK) did mess up Zimbabwe in the days when it was Rhodesia, but then we'd messed up most of our African colonies."
True. Blair only fucked up Britain, don't think he did the same to Zimbabwe |

I spent some time in zimbabwe back in 1999 doing volountary work with kids.
I dont know all the ins and outs of the politics going back a few decades.
But through still being in contact with friends I made when there, I know that the standard of life for most people there has declined massively since I was there.
The person in power over that time was mugabe, and he has ruined what was a beautiful country and people. |

"We ran our colonies pretty well.
But at the expense of the people living there. And then left some of them to really fuck things up after we left. "
We were certainly clever.
We went along with lots of bibles and swapped them for lots of land. |

And then they (the White farmers) turned that land over the decades into the breadbasket of Africa, Rhodesia virtually kept Southern Africa in Corn and Maize.
Not any more, the Land Reform Act has put a stop to that and the country is now all but desolate.

Most ex-colonies are doing worst off now than when colonised in terms of "human development" indicators (eg: infant mortality, life expectancy, literacy etc). Even in the cases where there was no civil war so won't even mention those countries who were unfortunate to initiate their independence with 20 years of power squabbles (Angola, Mozambique, etc) or those who have never been fortunate enough to have a proper government (DRC, Somalia etc).
It's very easy to blame the colonial powers (not just the Brits) but the truth is that what followed has in many cases been much worst because the ruling elites basically don't give a shit about their country or their people. |

Oh the irony.
Africans demand independence from the Europeans, and then when they get it, they fuck their countries up and leave for a country in Europe ??!!??

Seconded
I would add that most African dictators are very caring people.
They care about their fleets of Merc's, Swiss bank accounts, and wives shopping trips in Hong Kong. |
