Pope Francis has said gay people shouldn't be marginalised but integrated into society. He repeated the Catholic Church's position that homosexual acts were sinful, but homosexual orientation wasn't. He also wants a greater role for women but says they can't be priests.

What do you think? A step in the right direction?

If you can get BBC1 Scotland programmes on iPlayer where you are, check out 'Sins of Our Fathers'

"The shocking truth of physical and sexual abuse in one of Scotland's most prestigious Catholic boarding schools.

Mark Daly uncovers the hidden story of Fort Augustus Abbey, the Catholic monks who ran it, and exposes those who turned a blind eye to the horrors within. He hears of stories of abuse that spanned decades and took him to the other side of the world to confront those responsible."

It would appear nothing has changed.

Integrated into society ?

Its an improvement rather than all of us 'leppers' burning in a hell fire!!!! accepted as long as I don't have carnal activities with other women .....

I could go on and on about this as it makes my blood boil but its an old story now.

I don't think the Catholic church should change its position at all.

Personally I think religion generally is ridiculous but what's the point in having a doctrine if you are not prepared to stick to it when it becomes unpopular? Either you have rigid beliefs or you don't. If you don't like their ridiculous discriminatory beliefs, don't join their club. Make up your own religion to suit!

If I went around telling people I was gods mouthpiece on earth, I would likely be sectioned...

If I was head of an organisation whose "employees" were not only known to abuse children, but I knew about it, I would very likely be locked up...

Looking at what he said about homosexuals, it shows just how out of touch the RC church is with reality!

Does anyone really listen to what he says? Sadly, I already know the answer to that... The phrase "Follow like sheep" comes to mind...

You will also find those anomalies on here.. People who are practicing Catholics (and other religions) and swingers! They will find all sorts of ways to justify, but really already know what the church would make of it!

Each interprets to suit their own ends..

Because the church has long held such antiquated views on many issues regards sexuality and sexual behaviour...

I wouldn’t discribe this as a step in the right direction,,,,, but I would be prepared to admit it’s not a step in the wrong direction....

I was raised a Catholic. I am sure every priest is not a rapist, child molester, masoginist, power hungry egotist, religious despot and hypocrite.... but I would not take the chance.

Thankfully I have nothing to do with the church and walked away from it as a child before I was damaged by it.
