Not sure how long this has been in place, but I only discovered it by accident yesterday. My major broadband is currently out of order (waiting for the engineer) so used wi-fi through my mobile phone. The phone network 02 then went through some checks to make sure I was over 18 before logging on to this site. It didn't work (not because I wasn't over 18, but a problem with their site), but even so how brilliant and about time. Every network and broadband company should work like this. It might help with some of the problems that are currently circulating. |

It can do. You need to check on your download tariff - how much data you can download a month. You will get a warning when you are close to your limit and after that connection slows up and charges apply.
I use wifi wherever I can rather than roaming hotspots. |

If uou on contract ask them how much gree gownload time you get...try to get dome extra free lol
Just remember even looking at a page ect is classed as download
On plus side its really good to perv on tje move  |

sorry, meant I am not using my phone to go on line, using the wi-fi to from my phone to my laptop, because broadband is not working, waiting for engineer this morning. |

if you are tethering your laptop to your phone for internet use, unless you have unlimited data with tethering allowed you'll be using large amounts of data as you're not using the smaller mobile versions employed by many sites- probably best to stop and check with your phone provider before you owe them your soul and your first born  |

But isn't the usage from O2 rather than Virgin? Sorry for all the questions. I thought I was using 02 usage because of getting stopped coming on here - normally Virgin broadband doesn't ask. |

I think you're confusing your tech terms.
Broadband is the physical connection from the modem/router box in your house- through cable or phone lines to BT/Virgin.
Wi-FI is a wireless radio signal that allows you to connect your laptop, phone etc to this router- if your broadband is not working then you aren't online this way (unless the issue is with your laptop connecting to it- not the broadband service)
Tethering is where you connect your phone and laptop together using a physical cable or setting up a 'personal hotspot' via a wi-fi link, but this will be using your phones 3G connection, not broadband. If you don't have unlimited data you might end up running out of data or with a whopping big bill from 02/vodaphone/Orange or whoever you pay your phone contract to |

Pink Sapphire I understand you on some point... yes you are currently tethering on your O2 3G network, and depending on contract there could be charges, so don't do it if you can avoid it (i.e. get your broadband fixed ASAP)
Second point is less clear, what problems does it stop that you have to contact your provider to get access to adult sites? |

When using phone to tether wi-fi to laptop when logging on here it is 02 that asks for clarification of age, normal internet provider (virgin) doesn't ask for that. |

Virgin normal internet provider is not working, so I am using my phone as a portable wi-fi hotspot which is what I am currently using. |

But if Virgin did ask then one switch is for whole household, So you switch it on so you can see Fab, means your kids can too... so it solves nothing. |

You missed my point, Virgin doesn't ask for age clarification, 02 does - so wouldn't it be a good idea if ALL internet providers did this? I have only just discovered phone to laptop wifi and didn't know age clarification was ever asked for until then. |

Once you reach your limit then you will be charged. I get 750 mb as part of my contract. I pay if I use more. This is monthly.
As for age restrictions, you can use parental controls on your wifi at home. |
