Over the past few weeks iv'e been trying to get a BT line put in,for my new SKY account, but had 3 cancellations
I've heard since that you don't need a phone line unless you have multi room,or use the interactive service or box office.
Someone said if you pay £25 you don't have to have it .?
Personally I'd rather do without having a line to avoid the line rental.
Has anyone done this .?

Yeah that's right you don't need a oh online for sky tv unless you want to use the interactive or have a multi room. It was initially brought in to stop people getting multi room boxes and sharing them with neighbours and friends. So they started sending a signal to them every so often to check if they were still connected. If they weren't connected to a phone line you would then get a bill for the full subscription for the extra multi room boxes.
Phone them up and pay the £25 (manual enablement fee) and do with out the phone line. |

Fuck that- 3 cancellations? I'd phone them up and give them some greif about the poor service, your wasted time and the hassle of trying to sort this yourself. Don't ask them but tell them you no longer want the phone line and you won't be paying the fee for this- they didn't tell me i needed something for the installation of mine and told me it was an additional £20- it arrived 1st class 2 days later with no charge, amazing what happens when you quote the consumer goods act, breach of contract and removing their service and sending them a bill to repair the holes drilled to fit the dish |

"The contract used to be you needed a phone line that they connect to for the interactive stuff...but like another poster we just pulled the plug once it was installed."
But don't they get the arse when you do that? |

Some times they do but you only need to have it connected for the first year anyway if you don't pay the £25 |

You can have sky tv without any phone line you won't get on demand or be able to go interactive but yea you can have any of the bundles ...if you haven't got a phone line at all sky will install one free 14.50 line rental this does give you free weekend calls and if you want to add broadband that's another 5.50 for bb light 7.50 for unlimited 12 months contract for sky not 18 like some other company's and if you cancel after 12 months you still get to keep your skybox free and no cancellation charges .......yea I work for sky lol |

Thanks everyone, called BT and told em to poke it in a dark place
Spoke to SKY ans they told me it wasn't a problem, I would need a line for the broadband, but they would fit that.
So all sorted now

If you only want sky and not phone or broadband then it is possible for a charge.
If you have multi room then you need a phone line. As the box's need to call back once a month to ensure there at the correct address!
I worked for sky in the past
Good luck x |

Rather than paying sky a monthly fee I would look at getting a f5 box and a good broadband. The f5 box is only about £60 to buy (depending on the model you want) and it is connected to a sky dish and your broadband and gives you every sky channel plus more and doesn't cost you anything a month except for your broadband cost.
You can also record on the f5 similar to the sky+ |
