So the last Transit has been made in Southampton.
Why ?
If Mercedes and VW can make vans in Germany, Ford cannot argue its down to labour costs.
Or is it sweetners from the Turkish government, and Ford's accountants rubbing their hands at the prospect of selling the land ? |

I'm not an expert on the subject but maybe VW & Mercedes feel like they have to still be seen as a German company.
Ford aren't British so they wouldn't feel the same loyalty. |

So if you were in charge making corporate decisions effecting the financial security of a global brand, would you not move production of one vehicle from one country to another to aid your companies long term prospects of keeping more people employed and increase the chances of your brand riding out the global financial crises….
Or would you risk leaving it where it was? |

This may very well be the case. The UK does the same, offering large financial incentives per job created/ invented when the maths suggest it'd be cheaper to keep the new employees on the buroo. |

I'm neither an accountant or an economist. But if Germany can build cars and vans profitably, and sell them at a premium, why can't we ? At one time the factory employed 4000. Now another 500 are out of work. Instead of exporting vans, its now another import. /quote] |

Can they actually show a profit, or are they being subsidised by the manufacturer or the govt or whoever?

Because it's easier, and cheaper for them to lay off a workforce in the UK than it is in Germany. |

I couldn't give a monkeys hole where they manufacture the vans, I just feel for the folk who are now out of work. I know it's a business but loyalty from employees must be taken into consideration. Damn! |

Ford is American, Americans have no loyalty in business, they've no scruples at all!!
Just my opinion! |
