Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
I'm planning to buy some for my nephews. I should have just asked the Google guy when I was there recently as they are putting them in schools in Camden, London. If there are geeky things to do please do say so that I can sound geeky when I give them theirs. |

"If there are geeky things to do please do say so that I can sound geeky when I give them theirs."
The only reason I know about it was I posted a question on another website....
"Can anyone recommend a media player, that will work with a CRT TV via SCART?"
And one of the answers were...
"Raspberry Pi"
Also I know you can play Minecraft on it |

But you have to make it first, don't you? I heard about them last year but couldn't get hold of any for Christmas. |

"Raspberry Pi- the pc designed specifically for children but wiped out stock wise by the geek gang! Gorra laff int ya? "
I know. I tried to get some for the kids and they were all sold out. I haven't met one child that has one of their own yet. |

Raspberry Pi has a composite output which can be converted to Scart using a cheap adpater.
You can get a distro of Linux which you can drop onto an SD card which has XBox Media Centre loaded as well which will provide a Media Centre function for your PC to play back standard definition mpeg, xvid etc (as the XBMC has built in Codecs).
You can then control the XBMC running on the Pi with an Android phone or via Web browser if you hook the Pi to a network and enable the remote control functionality.
...or, buy a chipped XBox off Ebay for £30 and load XBMC onto it.

The other way of doing it is with an Android Box from that there 'Fleabay' - though for a standard Def setup you will need one with a Composite out.
You can then load XBMC onto it, or one of the other Android Media Centre programs.
